anyone else thinking of turning down serious $$ for cbs? i just got notice of full ride to stern (120k)

Take full ride. Is that a serious question? Stern is like 3 spots lower in rankings. Is that worth 120k to you?

Congratulations on the full-ride, old1442! That's certainly a lot of money to give up, but if CBS is where you want to go, then that's your personal decision.

While I am of a similar thought to lodestone -- 120k would be very very difficult for me to give up -- everyone's financial situation and reasons for choosing bschool are different. Make a decision that works well for you: does CBS offer you that many more resources than Stern? They're both in NYC, but does CBS have specific recruiting you'd be interested over Stern? Did you mesh well with current students/the culture better? All questions you have to answer for yourself. It's a great position to be in though!

Hi everyone - super longtime lurker, but first time poster! Just wanted to say:

1. Not too many of my friends are going through the MBA app process, so it's nice to know I'm not alone!

2. I was accepted to Columbia yesterday!! Got the call from Christina in the afternoon! My timeline if anyone is interested:

Submitted: 12/24/12
Invited to Interview: 1/23/13
Interview: 2/8/13 (Had some issues with this - none of the first three alums responded so I had to research and then my interviewer couldn't meet for a week and a half)
Feedback Submitted: 2/11/13
Decision: 2/20/13 - Accepted!!

Good luck to everyone else!

Dear Columbia, I have query related to regular program MBA

For an Indian male applicant of age 30 ,average academics(10th-70% ,12th- 63% Graduation-60%) and having work experience of 73 months with GMAT score 750 for such an applicant who is interested to apply for Columbia MBA program how much scholarship can be expected?[if at all his form is accepted]

For such an applicant whose acads are average should i consider that chances are bleak for an applicant with average acads as mentioned above to get a call.

Thanks And Regards
ankit!

Just so you are aware this forum is all students and individuals applying to CBS, nobody from the admissions office is monitoring this discuss. That being said, you have missed the application deadline for scholarships. That deadline was back on 9 January. So you might receive a need-based scholarship which ranges from around $2,000-$10,000 depending on your income and assets however you won't be eligible for any merit based scholarships.

Even if you hadn't missed the deadline it is virtually impossible to tell you what kind of scholarship, if any, you would receive. Unfortunately Columbia is one of the stingiest schools in the Top 15-20 so they don't give out much aid at all.

As I go through the page 1 statistics, it looks like CBS doesn't turn down a lot of interviewed candidates--certainly not close to 50% as is normally the case with other schools. Is this an accurate reflection of the reality? --Have received a status update of interview report yesterday, now begins the real waiting!

Another reason that may be is that people who are dinged aren't quick to update their statuses.

Ha! My favorite is the Remix to Admission video. Would link but my office won't let me access youtube, little do they know about the time waster I've got here...

Finally heard back/ scheduled an interview yesterday - unfortunately the interview won't be til Monday (2 full weeks after receiving invite). Seems that recently there has not been much good news for GMAT club members post-interview. I wonder if it could be due to the rolling process and the fact that we are now getting into a later time frame for admissions.

The relatively late time frame of my interview has me super nervous -- fingers crossed that all goes well! And good luck to all of those still waiting!

Anybody out there getting any good news from their interviews in the past couple days? My interview feedback was submitted on Wednesday, February 27th, so I'm getting really nervous! Happy Friday all!

My interview feedback was submitted on the 19th and I'm still waiting, so I'm afraid you'll be in limbo for at least another week. Good luck!

Mine was also no the 27th and nothing yet. Seems like turnaround has been more like 2ish weeks in many cases. So much stressful waiting in the MBA admissions process.

My interview was on the 13th, feedback on the 17th......still waiting.

For those of you who have received $ over the phone with your offers, this is merit-based, correct? Can one still separately, with or without the merit-based $, get need-based money later on?
Does anyone know if the process is somehow divided by offices, with the admissions office deciding merit, and the financial aid office deciding need??

Got in, but now trying to figure out how to pay for it!!! :| :| :|

Yes... Got the call today, including a decent merit based fellowship!

I hear you. My feedback was submitted on the 28th and I've been checking my status at least 10x per day. But admissions can take as long as they want with my application as long as it ends with a phone call that says "welcome".

Sorry to hear that; when did your interviewer submit feedback?

submitted 3/4

wow, my feedback was submitted on 2/27 and I still haven't heard anything! Should I be worried?[/quote]

oh, i definitely wouldn't be worried at all! my interviewer had a tight timeline in that he was going out of the country and said he'd have to crunch the timeline together. definitely representative of his personal schedule, and not the applicant. so definitely don't worry about that timeline =)

Just dinged having interviewed on March 7th.

My best instinct is that my profile wasn't really a good fit for the school (I want to transition from finance to general management), and didn't do enough in my apps and interview to convince them otherwise.

In hindsight, I guess I should have been more thoughtful about which schools I was applying to and being more cognizant of what specific schools look for.

Good luck to everyone else still waiting. They do seem to turn around within two weeks of your interview submission, so at least not that long of a wait!
