Re: How many ways are there to award a gold, silver and bronze medal to 10 [#permalink]
we clearly know that there can be only one winning team which deserves the gold medal. we can do the selection in 10 ways
if gold medal is given to 1 of the teams then only possible 9 teams can be considered for silver medal. we can do selection in 9 ways
similarly if gold and silver medals are awarded then only remaining 8 teams can be considered for a bronze medal. we can do the selection in 8 ways
Total number of ways to select the 3 possible medal winners = 10 * 9 * 8
Correct answer - A

10C3*3!

10C3=>choose any 3 of the contending teams
3!=>How many ways each team may win any of the three medals
