How many ways are there to award a gold, silver and bronze medal to 10 [#permalink]

Kudos
Since there is no requirement for any order.

The number of a ways a team can be chosen for the Gold medal = 10
Given the gold medal is taken, the number of ways to choose a team for the Silver medal = 9
Given the two above, the number of ways to choose a team for the Bronze medal = 8

Total permutations = 10x9x8. A

10C3*3!

10C3=>choose any 3 of the contending teams
3!=>How many ways each team may win any of the three medals

arrange 3 in 10 position =10C3
since order matters multiply with 3!
so total no of ways =10C3×3!=10×9×7
