First impression tells us that this DS question wants to know whether the statements can provide an ACTUAL value.

Statement 1:

The ratio of S:C is 2:5. Does not give us any idea about the actual value of sugar in ounces. Can be 20 Oz of sugar to 50 Oz of Cinnamon, or 4 oz of sugar to 20 oz of cinnamon

Not Sufficient.

Statement 2:

The mixture weighs more than 20 ounces.

Again this statement does not give us an exact value of sugar in oz, Can be 60, 70, 80.

Not Sufficient.

Both together are also not sufficient.

The Q asks a definite number value.
1) Provides a ratio - Not Sufficient.
2) Provides an inequality of the total weight - Not Sufficient.
1+2) Provides a ratio & an inequality of the total weight - Not Sufficient to get a definite number.
Hence Ans E.

Hello guys,

Why can't we calculate the number of ounces as we have the total number and the ratio, so that combining both would allow us to find the result ?

I might not understand the process to solve this easy pb.

sugar = 2x, cinnamon = 5x, total mixture = 7x
As x is unknown, amount of sugar cannot be calculated

(2) The mixture weighs more than 20 ounces.
Amount of sugar cannot be calculated

(1)+(2);
Mixture is more than 20 ounces
7x > 20
x > 2.8 approx
x can be 3, 4,5...
therefore absolute amount of sugar ie. 2x cannot be calculated

E is correct
