Re: Calling UNC Kenan-Flagler MBA Applicants: [2020 Intake] Class of 2022! [#permalink]
Hi All,

Quick question specifically about KF's Early Action deadline: Is the deadline binding (like those of Duke or CBS) or do you just lose the required deposit? I don't see it mentioned anywhere that it is in fact binding and their EA date is very similar to, if not the same as the R1 deadlines at many other schools. I would imagine if accepted EA and then choosing to matriculate elsewhere, you would simply lose your deposit (twice the regular deposit amount) and make another student happy by being accepted off the waitlist?

Can anyone provide any further insight?

Thanks

It is non-binding. So you will juts lose the deposit, if you choose another school.

If There's no mention of it, I think you should email them for clarification. generally in most of the schools it isn't binding.

It is non-binding. You would lose the $3,000 deposit.

Even in the case of CBS, you only lose deposit if you decline their offer. That is what CBS adcom told us in a chat session couple of years ago.

Hi,
Could anyone please tell me what is the required TOEFL score for Kenan-Flagler? Can we submit TOEFL score after 10 days from the date of early action round deadline?
Thanks,

Hi Satya,

It's unclear how much is the min required TOEFL for UNC; It's neither mentioned on their website, nor in US News rankings, which generally provide TOEFL figures of major top bschools. According to US News, min TOEFL for CMU Tepper and USC Marshall, which have little higher ranks than that of UNC, is 100 so it could be a safe bet to try to get as much above 100 as possible on the TOEFL.

About your other query, UNC categorically says that you should at least submit unofficial test scores while applying; If you want 10 days extension, you should either email or call them directly.

Hope that helps!

This is not specific to UNC but for EA rounds in general; What could be possible consequences of declining a binding EA offer?

If you have completed your undergrad in English, then TOEFL is waived. I got mine waived too.

Great :) Thanks a lot :)
Most of the B schools do not mention about the minimum required TOEFL, but while searching about it i found something interesting that there are some elite B schools which do not ask for TOEFL.

We asked this question to UNC adcom in our recent live chat and following was her response...

"Our early action deadline just closed on Monday. We are evaluating applications and should be sending out interview invites by end of next week."
