Hey everyone! Looking for honest guidance from people who’ve been through the MiM application process 🙏

About me:
- Indian, 20 years old
- B.Com at a Panjab University affiliated college (non-elite)
- Sem 1 SGPA: 5.9 | Pending papers in Sem 2 & 3 (working on clearing them as already gave re appear exams as I had health issues and family stuff)
- ACCA: 3/13 papers done (Applied Knowledge level and paused for now due to toxic mentor and bad institution )
- Targeting MiM Sept 2027 at HEC Paris, ESSEC, INSEAD, ESCP, emlyon
- GMAT prep ongoing, target August 2026 through e-GMAT
- Cannot do in-person activities right now — fully remote accept for I have signed up in local NGO
- Also writing e-book and starting YouTube for documentary, experience sharing, giving knowledge on things I know or learning
What I need help with:

1️⃣ What extracurriculars actually matter for top MiM applications when everything has to be remote? (Forage, Inside LVMH, online consulting projects etc — am I on the right track?)

2️⃣ Is hiring an admissions consultancy worth it for a non-elite Indian profile? If yes, which ones actually helped you for French MiMs specifically?

3️⃣ How do I handle the pending papers and non-elite college story in essays without it hurting me?

4️⃣ Any general advice for someone 15 months out with this profile? And I am targeting R1 and R2

Really grateful for any guidance please and how to use cold emails, LinkedIn for my case and any particular people to connect

Hi kaustubhkohli12,

You must have taken all 6 official practice tests. Have you also taken each test twice, and how long has it been since you took these tests?

Got it. You may have forgotten most of the questions by now, so maybe you can still use the official practice tests? Otherwise, you’ll have to use sectional tests or switch to nonofficial tests. I’m sure you’re already aware of all this, so my reply is probably not too helpful.

All the best.

Sometimes the issue happens with newly-registered accounts. Just keep actively engaging with the community - participating in chats, replying to posts, and using the GMAT Club Timer to solve questions in the question bank. Usually the source filters appear for you in a few days.

That might depend on one school to another, but schools generally have no negative bias against candidates who have taken the GMAT multiple times.

Hi guys,

Hope y’all are doing well. I wanted to reach out because I’m looking to get access to Applicant Lab, but the subscription cost is a bit steep for me right now.

I posted on Reddit asking if anyone had a spare promo code or an unused subscription they’d be willing to pass on, but unfortunately I didn’t get any responses. I thought I’d reach out directly in case anyone might know of a code, discount, or someone who purchased a subscription but isn’t using it anymore.

Thanks so much in advance!

Heyy all!
Ru this side from India. I completed my Graduation from Symbiosis with a major in advertising in 2022. I have been working since then, for the past 4 years in marketing.
While I am sorted in work experience, i am lacking in extra curriculars. I was never a very extroverted leadership kind of student in school or college. That is something that really developed during my work, and within my work experience. And with the work, it’s been difficult to do/focus on other things to build the extracurricular side of my profile.
I just like to crochet, color, knit and do some other creative relaxing activites on the side, but nothing functional, commercial or utility based tbh.

Just wanted to see if anyone had any advice for this?

Participating in the competition is a free and highly effective way to prepare for the GMAT. We have numerous accounts from students who report that taking part in the competition and writing detailed solutions helped them improve their scores substantially. In addition, it is a great opportunity to win valuable prizes. Last but not least, it is a fun, team-based event that makes preparation more engaging and motivating.

Are you applying without a GMAT or GRE score?

Many top MBA programs now offer GMAT/GRE waivers for qualified applicants, so you may have more options than you think.

If you’re unsure whether you qualify, Jenifer Turtschanow, CEO of ARINGO, is offering free profile evaluations for a limited time. She’ll review your profile, help you understand which schools may offer a waiver, and advise whether applying with a waiver or submitting a test score is the stronger approach.

Hi everyone,

I would really appreciate an honest evaluation of my profile for ISB PGP.

Profile:

* Gender: Female
* 10th: 9.8 CGPA
* 12th: 81.8%
* B.Tech: 8.24 CGPA
* Work Experience (at the time of application): ~2.5 years
* Clarivate – Research Engineer (Patents): 9 months
* Capgemini – Cisco TAC Network Engineer: ~1 year 9 months

I am currently preparing for the GMAT.

I have a few questions:

1. How competitive is my profile for ISB PGP?
2. What GMAT Focus score should I target to be competitive?
3. Is 2.5 years of work experience on the lower side, or is it sufficient for ISB admissions?
4. What areas of my profile should I strengthen before applying (leadership, extracurriculars, certifications, essays, etc.)?

I’d be grateful for feedback from current students, alumni, or applicants. Thank you!

Hi Ruchi,

I’m also applying for this program. I think the profile and academics look good overall.
What I’ve heard is General Engineer (Male - generally) is tough, and demands a little higher score than anyone with other profiles. However, that shouldn’t be considered as a bugger, because profile and career trajectory, and also impact made in current role counts equally. So, a good score clubbed with your profile should be good enough to secure your admission.

Having that said, I’m also working on my GMAT, and not applied yet. The above advise is a summary of what I learnt from admissions counselor and few connections who studied at ISB.

All the best!

UG which college Ruchie12?

ISB would consider your experience by March 2027. So, you would have 3+ years. That’s fine.

The median at ISB is 675. So, you should aim for a score close to that, preferably higher.

You can subscribe to e-GMAT. This course is very good. Since you want to join MBA in 2027(starting of the classes) in you have to apply for the admission in this year(2026, mostly Indian B schools). For the same, you have to appear for GMAT this year only. In order to assess your readiness for GMAT, register on MBA.com and take 1st free mock to assess your current GMAT level. Then depending on your present level and target score, you can prepare a study plan which will give you more practical insights on when you will be ready to appear for GMAT.

Hi everyone!

I’m a 27-year-old female from India, currently working as a Software Developer with around 5 years of experience. I’m planning to apply for MBA programs this year in Round 1.

My goal post-MBA is to transition into Product Management. I have a GMAT Focus score of **665**.

Based on my profile, which U.S./Europe MBA schools do you think would be a good fit? I’d especially appreciate recommendations that balance strong PM recruiting with realistic admission chances.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

A lot of applicants assume that if they don’t have a 700+ GMAT, the M7 is out of reach. But, that’s not always true.

We have seen applicants get into top MBA programs with lower scores because the rest of their application was genuinely strong. I’ve also seen applicants with great scores get rejected because everything else fell flat.

We’re going live today to talk about what AdComs actually look for beyond the test score.

Today: 29 July
Time: 8:30 PM IST | 08:00 AM PDT

If you’re still debating whether to apply this year because of your GMAT/GRE, this session should answer a lot of your questions.

GMAT Club Tests are by far the second-best option after the official mocks. By the way, we have a free access day on August 15, so you can try them out and see for yourself.

Hi, I attempted this question correctly (0.35, 0.40). However, on submitting this shows that I’ve marked 0.2,0.2 and the explanations says 0.35 and 0.40. Is this a portal error? Faced similar error once before

Hi! I’m a product manager without an MBA or a computer science degree, and I think you have a pretty strong profile for making the transition.
Product teams tend to value technical backgrounds a lot, so having both software development experience and an MBA should put you in a good position. Plenty of PM roles, especially technical PM roles, specifically look for candidates with STEM or engineering backgrounds.

One thing I’d spend real time on before recruiting is product management interview prep. PM interviews are their own weird little world, and a lot of the frameworks and case-style questions probably won’t be covered much in an MBA program.

You can use AI to help with this too. For example, drop in a job description for the kind of PM role you want and ask it to generate likely interview questions, product cases, and a study plan. Your technical background should help a lot with technical product questions, and the MBA will strengthen you on strategy, leadership, growth, and business judgment. You’ll still want to deliberately study the pure product side: product sense, prioritization, metrics, execution, estimation, and product design questions.

I also think you have a decent shot at landing a PM role even without an MBA if you can get interviews and prepare extremely well. The MBA would make the transition more structured and probably open more doors, but it isn’t the only path.

Good luck!! Your background actually lines up pretty well with what a lot of technical PM teams are looking for.

Hi everyone!

I’m a 27-year-old female from India, currently working as a Software Developer with around 5 years of experience. I’m planning to apply for MBA programs this year in Round 1.

My goal post-MBA is to transition into Product Management. I have a GMAT Focus score of **665**.

Based on my profile, which U.S. MBA schools do you think would be a good fit? I’d especially appreciate recommendations that balance strong PM recruiting with realistic admission chances.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!
