Draw the number line and mark s, r, t, and u
s is halfway between r and t: -----------t----s----r---- (since r>s);
t is halfway between r and u: u---------t---------r----;

So, you can see that E must be correct, since u-t=r-t.

Or you can assume u=0, t=2, and r=4 (s=3) then \(\frac{u-t}{t-r}=\frac{-2}{-2}=1\).

Answer: E.

r > s > t > x >u

Plug in some numbers...

r > s > t > x >u = 2 >4 > 6 > 8 >10

Now, check using the options , only (E) will satisfy the condition...

Hence our answer will be (E)

I plotted u, t, s and r on the number line, plugged in random values and then used those values to solve all the equations.

<--------------------------------------------------------------------------------->
u...................................................t.....................s.....................r

Let u = 2, t = 8, s = 11, r = 14.

The above values are chosen keeping in mind that:

1) t is halfway between u and r
2) s is halfway between t & r
3) r > s

If we use the values from the number line, only option E gives us 1.
