Re: Fuqua (Duke) Class of 2016: Calling all applicants! [#permalink]
Does anyone know whether MBA students are eligible for teaching assistantships (other employment opportunities) at Fuqua? I know several schools offer a few assistantships, but others don't.

2nd year students who perform exceptionally well in the first year courses are often asked by professors if they would like to serve as TAs. In addition, you can be an admissions fellow in the first year and that's a paid position as well. There may be some others that I'm missing.

Does this cover tuition? I couldn't find any info on the website. Usually if you are a TA its tuition plus monthly stipend.

Assuming I get a R2 interview invite, are there any resources about the best way to get to Duke from NYC?

I'm wondering this myself. From what little research I've done, there's an Amtrak (Carolinian) that is a direct from Penn Station to Durham, NC. This puts you at about 3 miles from Fuqua.

There's also RDU (Raleigh-Durham international airport) and that's 20 mins by cab away from campus.

If anyone has more insight into this, please share! Thanks!

I live in the tri-state area as well. I think there are three choices, depending on your situation.

1. Drive - which is 8 hours nonstop. But then you would have a car to get around and visit the surrounding areas if you want
2. Fly - which is 2 hrs nonstop or longer. It'd be convenient, but like farful said, it's 20 mins away from campus
3. Amtrak - which takes I think 10 hours or something like that. But it's much closer to school than the airport

Amtrak will cost you 200 bucks RT, driving will probably be 30 bucks less, and flying is about 200 and up. I'm going to be flying down there unless I can convince my buddies to do a road-trip with me.

Does anyone know approximately when interview invitations should go out for those who didn't self-initiate?

Absolutely. Off hand, I know a couple of second year students who did an exchange semester at LBS. I actually did a semester at LSE because they had a specific entrepreneurship course that I was interested in.

TAs are paid by hourly contribution and this can be applied to tuition or be paid out.

nice, didn't realize that you can do exchange at LBS. I thought Fuqua only does exchanges with members of P.I.M.

Is LSE on quarter system also? or you had to spend 2 quarters? Also, it is easy to get your first choice?

From what I was told from a current student, usually students get one of their top three choices. For popular destinations, I was told it helps to volunteer to do your exchange in the Spring to assure you of your first choice. The reason why is because most students don't want to leave campus in the height of basketball season and March Madness.

R2 applicants will receive interview invite decisions on Feb 6th. Meanwhile, will our application status change to "Under Review"? OR will it continue to remain in "Complete" status?

Thanks!
