The remains of the Petralona skull, discovered in Greece twenty years [#permalink]
The fossil is estimated to be 300,000 years old, which makes Petralona Man older.

Here which seems to modify the complete preceding clause (bold part).

Isn't absurd?

Agreed; not the best of constructs.

I chose E because "which" seems to refer back to the age of the fossil, 300 thousand years old, which is the object of the earlier phrase - from which the rest of the sentence infers that that Petralona man is older than Neanderthals.

All other choices seem to compare the age of the fossil with the Neanderthals.
