If each juice must be at least 20% of the resulting cocktail, and there is only 8 liters of each juice type available, what is the greatest possible percent difference between two types of juices in the mixture and what percent of the cocktail would be comprised of the least used juice?

IMO. A

The answer to both the questions is 20%

Keep in mind we have maximum quantity of juice available is 8 litres .

20% is must that is 4 lit.

To form 20 lit cocktail the possible combination is 4 +8+ 8

So, 8 lit -4 lit is 20%

Minimum juice percent is 20% that is 4 litres.

Apple juice 8 ltrs,

Cranberry juice 8 ltrs,

Grape juice 8 ltrs

To make 20 ltrs juice cocktail with at least 20% of resulting quantity of each.

To make perfect 20 ltrs, gives only option 8 + 8 + 4 = 20;

Hence, least juice percentage is 20%.

And greatest percentage difference between two types of juices is \(\frac{(8 - 4) }{ 8}\) = 50%

Given: Marisol needs 20 litres of juice cocktail consisting of cranberry, apple, and grape juice for a garden party.
Asked: If each juice must be at least 20% of the resulting cocktail, and there is only 8 litres of each juice type available, what is the greatest possible percent difference between two types of juices in the mixture and what percent of the cocktail would be comprised of the least used juice?

Least juice = 20% * 20 = 4 litres
Greatest juice = 8 litres

Possible combination = 4 + 8 + 8 = 20 litres

Least juice percentage = 20%

Greatest percent difference = (8-4)*100/4 % = 100%


Select the greatest possible percent difference between two types of juices in the cocktail and the percentage of the cocktail that would be the least used juice. Make only two selections, one in each column.

Bunuel Greatest possible percent difference should be actually 66.66%. when calculating percent difference between 2 numbers, the denominator is taken as the average of the 2 numbers.

­I dont think that will be correct. Even the question has not been able to convey what it sought to ask clearly. 
With the given wordings, max is 8 litres or 40% of mix and the least is 4 or 20% of the mix. Thus the max difference in quantity of two is 40-20 or 20%.
