Hi there,
Thanks for reaching out! My main question is – why do you want an MBA? What’s your story? What are your short term and long term career goals?
You’re correct that you are on the higher end of the age range for business school, but that in and of itself is not a deal-breaker. However, you need a solid story for why a full-time 2-year MBA makes sense for you at this stage in your career and why you need it in order to achieve your post-MBA goals.
With your potential offer as an MD in India, I would also ask you to think about this experience and how it lends itself to the need for an MBA with the lens of your story. If your story is that you need an MBA to change careers into the Oil and Gas industry, and the new MD role already achieves this goal, your overall need for business school would be weakened. On the flip side, if this new position can help you strengthen an existing story – strengthening skills yet still show a compelling need for an MBA, then it could be a good career move.
If you do decide to re-apply, I would also urge you to look at your application holistically – GMAT/GPA, leadership/extracurriculars, resume, etc. – in addition to your story. I’ve seen strong candidates not get in during Round 1 because they didn’t have a solid story, but I’ve also seen unsuccessful candidates with strong stories but lower credentials than their competitive set. With such a competitive environment, you need every part of your application to be rock solid.
