Hello all,

I have my GMAT date scheduled on August 31st and am planning to apply for Fall'11. I might be cutting it tight for Round 1 applications as most of the deadlines are in October. I am just curious of admission chances for Round 1 vs Round 2. My friends told me that Round 1 always has greater weightage than Round 2. Is it true? If yes/no, can you please let me know of any advantages/disadvantages of Round 1 vs Round 2? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Krishna,
This is one of the most common question which applicants ask while applying to b-schools. There are many opinions on this topic with some justifications. The thumb rule should be 'Apply at the earliest but only when you are ready'. So if you can get a nice package done for R1 ...go for it! If R1 might not be your best shot then wait for R2.

Moreover with R1 results you will have more time to alter your strategy to get into the best possible b-school.

Hi Krishna,

While R1 gives you better chances of getting through, dont submit a half baked application in order to apply to more schools.
You can may be target say 2 schools which you can complete in 30-40 days.

The only disadvantage of applying in R1 to a school which might not be your top choice is that if you get through than you have to deposit some amount before you hear the decision from other schools to which you have applied in R1.
