I am planning to re-take my GMAT, and was wondering if any of you out there recommend taking some time off to relax the mind before gearing back up to study again.
I remember towards the end of my prep, I began to feel warn out, and now that my test is over (took it 4/13), I am debating when to start prepping again.
I feel like I should start sooner rather than later since I have been studying for a few months and all the information is fresh in my head. I think I am going to start studying again this week, which would have given me 7-10 days of rest.
Any suggestions/thoughts/experiences out there?
Also, how soon to re-take the actual GMAT? I am leaning towards mid June (leaves about a month and half of study time to improve weak areas)...
Hi vaj18psu, first off: congrats on taking the exam and deciding to take it again. A lot of people don't make it to that step and just stop after one, so you're already demonstrating resilience on this test.
Secondly, if you don't feel up to studying for the test yet, then you probably shouldn't. You won't get much out of your prep unless you're really into it and focused on getting the most out of your time. When you want to study for the test, that's when you should start studying.
As for a specific time frame, that obviously depends on you, but I could see a two week period or so being helpful. You say that you want to get on with it while the information is fresh in your head, but if you studied properly the first time, the information isn't going anywhere. You'll forget a lot of it after 2 years, but not really after 2 months, much less 2 weeks. If anything, relearning certain concepts after a little time off will probably give you a fuller 360 degree understanding, so that could be a big positive for your prep.
I've seen this type of thing work before with former students, the real secret to success is the will to do it. Once you have your mind determined to do this, you'll know it.
Thanks!
