Is it possible to only get one question wrong in a section and dip all the way to the 78th percentile? That seems like a steep price for getting a medium question wrong.
Hi ZS24,

It may be possible, but it is very far from normal. This is the first 3-mistakes V41 I've ever seen.

Shattered. Need help please! Took the GMAT 7/31/21 after about 2 months of on and off studying (1 month each stint. One in May-June and the other in the past 4 weeks). Scored 660, 690, 720, 730, 670 for OG tests (fluctuating all over the place due to verbal), and 630-700 on Manhattan Prep Exams. This is my first official attempt. Targeting for a top 3 school and am looking for at least a 730+ within the next month. Is this possible?

During test day, I attribute my biggest mistake to knowing that I'm weak at CR and simply chickening out from ALL CR questions because I knew I was running out of time. My brain just shut down when I saw CR. Hoping to apply to schools this September 2021, and am running out of time. I also came back from my break 1 minute late for Verbal and freaked out. Please give me your strongest / most effective advice that I can achieve in a short time. Willing to pay for 1:1 tutoring, willing to study 24/7 by myself, take a vacation from work...whatever it takes. I am willing to dedicate everything within the next month. Thank you in advance!

Hi ibnerd1,

That's a very good verbal score, considering that you clearly underperformed in CR. Did you face similar issues in your official practice tests?

During my prep exams, never had the issue of blanking out on CR and giving it up. But I always knew I'm weak in CR. I spent the last week of my prep doing 200+ RC questions so for some reason my brain just blanked on all the CR and decided to move on hoping for more RCs. I'm not sure why I did that but it was definitely due to time crunch. During prep tests, I've also had timing issues.

This (timing) is the very first thing I'd ask you to work on.

If you take a look at the "performance over time" section (2:06, 3:01, 1:12, 0:33), you'll see that you had very little time in the last two quarters. This means that everything else in your ESR is slightly suspect. That is, it would not be a good idea to conclude anything about your ability level or understanding of the concepts tested in the verbal section on the basis of this ESR.

Here's one possible approach to timing on the GMAT.

Hello,
I gave my GMAT Test at the center on 19th Aug, 2021 after 3 months of preparation. My score was 600 (V28 Q44). I was surprised to see the score, based on what I felt during the exam. So it is worrisome :(

My GMAT Prep Official Mock Test Results were:
5th July- 650 (V33 Q47)
1st Aug- 710 (V35 Q49)

I have the ESR . Please let me know if someone would like to help me with it's analysis. I will PM/email the ESR to you.

Thanks!

Hi RPR,

Before you can include attachments with your posts/PMs, you need to have at least 5 posts in the forums (right now, you have just 1 post). If you would rather not go through those extra steps at this point, then you can feel free to email your ESR directly to me (at Rich.C@empowergmat.com).

Hello,

I am looking for some support on identifying a path forward primarily on my verbal ability (SC specifically). I am including three ESR reports. Welp - can't add my ESRs here yet. My first official test is baseline fyi.

My most recent verbal ESR is pretty interesting - looks like GMAC wanted to give me a higher score but I showed them I didn't deserve it: Q1 - 0 incorrect, Q2 - 2 incorrect, Q3 - 2 incorrect, Q4 - 4 incorrect.

[For students interested] I started preparing the last week of June. For quant, I prepared with TTP and received 98% PS accuracy and 94% DS accuracy, typically translating to a Q50-Q51 for me. I completed quant prep ~8/10/21.

For verbal, I have completed about ~200 OG questions with no established process or training. Can you recommend me a path to improve? I see SC as the main obstacle as evidenced by my attempt this past Friday and I am considering throwing money at the e-GMAT verbal plan. Ideally, I would like to get to a consistent V42/44.

If I've included too much information please let me know and I will slim down the post.

Thank you for the time and feedback. My next attempt is September 7th and hopefully I will be able to amend this post with a ESR from my 760 attempt :)

Official Attempts:
Attempt Date Overall Quantitative Reasoning Verbal Reasoning Integrated Reasoning AWA
1 9/9/17 650 46 34 8 -
2 4/6/18 660 44 38 6 6
3 8/20/21 710 50 36 7 -

Official Verbal Overview:
Attempt Date Overall (Verbal) Critical Reasoning Reading Comprehension Sentence Correction
1 9/9/17 34 38 37 28
2 4/6/18 38 38 35 40
3 8/20/21 36 38 44 31

GMAT Prep: (Note - both "OG 1" are from the legacy GMAT Prep software)
Attempt Date Overall Quantitative Reasoning Verbal Reasoning Integrated Reasoning
OG 1 3/27/18 650 45 34 5
OG 1 8/14/21 720 49 40 5
OG 2 8/16/21 750 51 40 5

Hello,

This is my ESR from 2 years ago, I had been scoring pretty solid on GMAT prep exams 700+, but well you see, I guess quant on preps isn't representative at all (I think verbal on preps is easier as well). My approach was not that solid that time I guess, practiced mainly with OG, didn't really have a plan to attack CR (which was my weakness). I'm planning to sit the online exam at the end of September do you think I can break 700 on the real thing?

I attempted GMAT prep 5 yesterday and scored 780 (I knew one text about the pendulum clocks I had reviewed it here, but aside from that I made only one mistake in SC, so my CR performance was solid). But I'm not sure how representative is that, I have a feeling real thing is much tougher, I don't want to have my confidence boosted to get it shattered again.

Help me analyze my performance.

Thank you!

Hello Experts,

Attaching my ESR report for the exam on 26-Aug at a center, request experts for their opinion.

GMAT score, 590 (Q41, V30, IR6)

Prep Strategy:
1. Started only Quant in May'21 and built foundations from TargetTestPrep (Overall Chapter test accuracy = 88%)
2. Started Verbal from mid-July'21, used TTP again (60% SC covered). For CR, I referred PowerScore Bible, no prep for RC as I have been a regular reader of business articles.
3. Solving OG questions here and there to reaffirm that I am on the right track.

My Mock history
March'21: GMATPrep 1, Cold Mock, 550 (Q38, V28)
July'21: GMATPrep 1, 640 (Q49, V28) - Did not remember the questions, but could still remove a point or two to discount for the bias.
15-Aug'21: ExpertsGlobal Free Mock, 600 (Q43,V31), Re-took with same responses and random choice for incomplete Verbal Qs: Score 680 (Q45, V38)
21-Aug'21: Manhattan Mock: 530 (Q36, V27)
22-Aug'21: Manhattan Mock: Only Verbal , V34
23-Aug'21: Manhattan Mock: Only Verbal, V26

I knew that I have to give a re-take, so I used only 1 GMATPrep practice test.

Going into the exam, I knew verbal was weak, and I was expecting around 650-700, with Q47-49, V32-35. But was quite shocked with Quant score. It felt as if the GMAT test makers had a premonition about my weakness in Abs Ineq & Number properties, and I am confident that I got more questions from only these two topics than any other topic.

Experts, please provide your inputs. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the feedback. I have taken your comments in the right spirit and have removed the posts. I was in a hurry, so had to do what I do. I know the posting rules for attachments exist for a reason, but there ought to be a better way to post ESR as a new member without having to wait to make meaningful contributions to the community. Also, I am sure you agree that consideration for being respectful should start with self. In my opinion, the ad hominem was unwarranted here.

Thanks!

Hi all, I recently gave my GMAT and scored a dismal 570 (Q36 V32 IR 7) while I did way better 670 - 700 in mocks prior to the main test. Would love to get my ESR vetted by experts here to give advice since I need it to give it before Round 1 starts for schools chosen. EMPOWERgmatRichC, could I PM it to you?
