That's almost all I'm saying. Improvements in vocab are useful in real life.

BTW, the words in the GRE's vocab-based questions are not particularly obscure. They are words one can expect to encounter anyway. So asking for a complete GRE word list is almost like asking for a list of words one may encounter while reading or watching TV.

That assumes I watch TV in English :angel: - as someone who did not or does not, I felt the best option was to read fiction or books in English but chasing every word I did not know was very time consuming.
Thinking about it, if GRE has just regular common words, why do they even bother?

The words are not common in all levels of writing. They are common in editorial pages of newspapers, in serious publications, and in academic writing, which graduate students will have to read.
See, for example, this recent book review in the New York Times: "Rescuing the Holocaust From Distortion and Cliché" (https://www.nytimes.com/2024/01/31/book ... stone.html)

Anyway, this is all off-topic! I liked Sentence Correction, mainly because it was the quickest and easiest question type. I just don't think it had much real-world utility.

I am not a fan of Multi socurce reasoning and they have been taking enormous amount of time. I have hardly paid attention to them during Classic GMAT prep. Now, from this thread, I found out that typically 4 MSR questions show up on the DI section. How wise (or dumb) is it to skip MSRs in the exam altogether (skip = guess answers, move on, and save time)? I am not usually in favor of really skipping any topic completely, but MSRs are not at all helping me and my overall performance detoriorates as a result. Any insight is highly appreciated.

Have you tried this strategy on Mock test? I plan to try it.

Looking forward to hearing the result of this strategy from you.

GMAT Focus heavily penalizes wrong answers compared with classic version. Sure, giving it a try on mock is a great idea but please be aware that it is fully possible you get two sets of MSR with 3 questions each meaning there is a chance you get 6 MSR questions on real test and only 3 in the mock test which could really play spoiler !!!

Re: GMAT Focus Edition - Everything You Need to Know [#permalink]
Does anyone know if the Executive Assessment will be updated to be aligned with the focus edition (i.e. no sentence correction or geometry)? If not, its basically two different exams right - studying for the EA before was almost the same as for the regular GMAT, in terms of content/syllabus, but that would not longer be the case?

Any recommendations for someone who studied for the original gmat, but now has to take the focus edition and is also interested in seeing how he performs in the EA?

Thanks!!

Hi rrc1996,

As far as I know, GMAC does not plan to update the EA, at least not anytime soon (they've publicly stated that the EA will continue in its current form for now).

If you've studied for the old GMAT, all the material you have should still be useful, and the new questions and tests available for the FE should help you prep for both the FE and the EA.

That's a great question. I'll need to check! GMATCoachBen may have better data since I think he mentioned that he has seen 6 actual score reports and I have seen 3 I think.

I just checked and the ones I have seen have the exact same breakdown. 5 Math related and 3 non-Math related!

By the way, I received an email from GMAC, suggesting that from 1 July, '24, they will be officially dropping "Focus Edition" from the title.

Hence, it will be just "GMAT" :)

===========================================================

Dear Colleague,

At GMAC, we are continuously working to provide the solutions necessary for schools and candidates to discover and evaluate each other easily and efficiently, such as with the introduction of the GMAT™ Focus Edition.

The “GMAT Focus Edition” name served as a crucial distinction between it and the previous version of the GMAT while both were in the market in late 2023 and early 2024.

Now with only one version of the exam available, we are transitioning back to using the "GMAT Exam" name from July 1, 2024 onward.

What is Changing?
The “GMAT Focus Edition” name will revert to the “GMAT Exam.” The only element of the GMAT Focus Edition that is changing is the name. The exam’s structure, content, scoring, and test features will remain the same. Additionally, the existing GMAT Focus Official Prep material will still be relevant to candidates currently studying for the exam.

===========================================================

Thanks!
