Considering statement (1) alone:
If x > 5, then
x + 5 = 3(x - 5) => x + 5 = 3x - 15 => 2x = 20 => x = 10 (Yes)

If -5 < x < 5, then
x + 5 = 3(5 - x) => x + 5 = 15 - 3x => 4x = 10 => x = 2.5(No)

Insufficient

Considering statement (2) alone:
If |x| > 3, then either x > 3 or x < -3
So, if x = 6, then xˆ2 > 5ˆ2 (Yes)
but if x = -4, then xˆ2 < 5ˆ2 (No)

Insufficient

Considering statement (1) and (2) together:
From statement (1), we have x = 2.5 or x = 10
From statement (2), we have x > 3 or x < -3

The only value that works for both the statements is x =10

The answer is (C).
