Is \(x - y < 0\) ?

(1) \(9y - 6x > 0\)
(2) \(xy > 0\)

Question: Is x < y?

Statement 1: 9y - 6x > 0

i.e. 3x > 2y
i.e. x > 0.66y

i,e. x may be greater than y or less than y hence

NOT SUFFICIENT

Statement 2: x*y>0

i.e. x and y have same signs and are non zero but the comparison between values is still absent hence

NOT SUFFICIENT

COmbining the statements
x*y > 0 and x > (2/3)y

Case 1: y = 3 and x = 2.5 i.e x < y
Case 2: y = 3 and x = 4 i.e x > y

NOT SUFFICIENT

(1) \(9y - 6x > 0\)

(2) \(xy > 0\)

target is x<y
#1
9y>6x
3y>2x
we can have x=y =1
or y=1 and x= 2
insufficient
#2
xy>0
means both are of same sign insufficient
from 1 &2
nothing can be determined

Question can be rephrased : Is y > x ?

(1) \(9y - 6x > 0\)

\(9y > 6x\)............\(3y > 2x\)

Let y =1 & x =1.............Answer is No

let y =1 & x =1/2.............Answer is Yes

Insufficient

(2) [m]xy > 0[/m

Let y =1 & x =1.............Answer is No

let y =1 & x =1/2.............Answer is Yes

Insufficient

Combine 1 & 2

Take same examples above. Is is still Insufficient
