so likely r3 applicant here. Any advice on how important an on-campus interview is? Does it increase my chances significantly or is it really not a huge deal? I live in DC if that makes any difference (so its not normally the hardest thing in the world to get out to Chicago, but it will be over the next 3 weeks for me).

Based on R2 last year, it looks like they did start calling people early, over 2-3 days. I can't tell which is worse, knowing we have to wait until Thursday to hear anything, or anxiously waiting for a call all week...

I also heard from a friend that they started calling people early last year, I am very anxious about this.. I even sleep with my phone beside my pillow...

I wouldn't bank on getting the call any time before Mar.21 given that this year's round1 calls were all made on decision day. As for the pillow idea, I would do that :-D except for the fact that sometime through the night, my phone gets tucked under the pillow and thus gets muted :? I'd stick with the night stand :-D

Almost there guys! Keep calm and carry on!

Who's volunteering? It has to be an ex-student or a current student or a R1 admit !

One of my favorite posts on the Wharton thread suggests that schools hire a CPO - "Chief Panic Officer" responsible for "inciting absolute panic amongst all of the applicants". Job responsibilities to include:
1. Posing as students on the boards with messages like "Accepted!!!!! They say all the calls are done!" two days before the deadline.
2. Changing minute elements on random applicants' log in pages to see whether people notice that the font changed from Calibri to Times New Roman or that "Congratulations" was posted at the top of the page in light grey font for 2 minutes from 10:36am to 10:38am PST
3. Calling each applicant from an 847 area code on March 21st... to offer a low rate if they switch their car insurance
4. Bonus pay for having the 847 calls come from "Kellogg... we're doing a brand survey on our cereal offerings"

Role will change tactics yearly and be highly compensated. To be considered, take a $250 test. Retake. Curse yourself and retake again. Pay $250 application fee. Interview. Stress, stress, stress, stress. And then (hopefully) rejoice. Just not until March 21st :)

Best of luck everyone!

Heard from my friend who applied first round that admissions sent an email the night before the announcement date for dings, and called admits on the day of announcement. Will not be sleeping well tonight. I've been so neurotic, waking up in the middle of the night and checking emails/forums/website.

It's true. The night before the deadline, people who got WL or dinged got an email. I remember everyone who didn't get an email was desperate, but one by one they started getting calls from admissions. The motto that day here at the forum was even "no news is good news".

That said, I wouldn't read much into that. Because they did it that way on R1, doesn't mean they'll do it again this time around. Anyways, good luck to you guys!

Talking about things that are awesome timesinks (or used to be), when did failblog become so lame? That was a go-to for a while. Best replacements?

I guess I'll turn off my cell phone tonight... I don't want to be notified of an email at 1am, because I know that'll mean bad news! I'd reather see it in the morning and at least get a good (??) night of sleep... And maybe, just maybe, wake up, see there's nothing in my inbox, and during the day receive the much expected call!
Best of luck guys! I know these comments serve no purpose for you, but as I cannot talk about any of this stuff at work, I try to say useless things here to relieve the stress...
I promise that if you do the same (and many of you clearly do!) I will not complain about it!

Maybe help things along with a few swigs of nyquil? Too addict-y?

Not a big fan... Guess I'll place my chips on the good old budweiser 6-pack. Reliable. Does the trick every time.

From hearing R1 people recount the story, though, it sounds like it might have been a mistake, as many of them didn't have decisions updated online yet at that hour. Possibly an email meant to go out at 1-2pm was scheduled for am by accident. Check a few pages back on this thread for that, or about 30 pages back to see what people were saying as it happened.

Somehow I was convinced that the admissions people were calling R2 admits today. You can imagine my relief when I got here and found out otherwise!

Glad it ended in a decent surprise! (Though a better surprise would have been to get a phone call.) I don't envy your day tho! I have been a mess knowing that the calls havent even started yet.
