Hi Aditya, Can you share your experience of the exam?

MY GMAT Experience - 690(Q50 V33) - though not a good score, still it is boosting me to write again as soon as possible.

I had prepared for GMAT for a month(December) and tried to give it on Jan 6th of 2017. I have reached the examination center only to find myself forgetting the passport. I had to leave the exam empty handed. Left my job in February 28th to concentrate only on GMAT.
I had Prepared for another Month before giving my exam on April 4th. This time i gone through various materials -
GMAT - SC - Manhattan
GMAT - CR - PowerScore
GMAT - RC - Manhattan(Biggest drawback - i have never prepared it till the last day before i gave GMAT.)
GMAT Mocks -
Manhattan , Kaplan , Gmatprep
Gmat prep 1 - 750
Gmat kaplan - 700
Gmat Manhattan CAT1 - 720
Gmat Manhattan CAT2 - 730
Gmat Manhattan CAT3 - 730
Kaplan CAT 2 - 700
Gmat Manhattan CAT4 - 740
Gmat Manhattan CAT5 - 780(Q51 V45) - Might be because i have seen some 5-6 questions getting repeated from my practice.
Gmat Manhattan CAT6 - 780(Q51 V45) - Might be because i have seen some 5-6 questions getting repeated from my practice.
Gmat prep 2- 740
All the above tests i have done in a span of 14 days before tests. (biggest mistake.)

Waking up in the morning, I prepared myself, went to the test center and took some snacks.

Wrote AWA - satisfied.
IR - 4/8 - reason - I have read some articles stating that IR is not important for the b-schools am aiming for.
I thought I did quant great as i completed with having 10 mins at hand, when in last question.
Started to write verbal.
first 13 questions were great completed in just 20 min. timer was on 58
From 15th question my mind started to go blurr, couldn't analyze anything. Can't understand what i have to do in passages which were thrown at me. I started to become anxious.
I was startled. few were correct , but couldn't critically think especially passages.
Screwed up.
Complete loss at stress management.
Saw my screen with 690(Q50 and V33)
closed my eyes decided to write again but accepted my score, came outside only to cancel the score after 2 days. Just in case.
Right now decided to write my exam on 25th or 27th of this month.
Kept my score card on my study table.

Hope this answers what you asked for. :)

Thanks for sharing your experience and Sorry to hear that the test results were not as you had expected.
But the results of practice CAT exams are very good. I wish you all the success in your upcoming attempt.
Good Luck!

Hi Aditya,

First off, a 690/Q50 is a fantastic score (it's a bit shy of the 90th percentile overall), so it could be enough to get you into your first-choice School. As such, a retest might not be necessary. Depending on the Schools that you plan to apply to, you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile. There's a Forum full of them here:

https://gmatclub.com/forum/ask-admission ... tants-124/

Before you rush in to retake the GMAT, you might want to analyze how you were studying and taking your practice CATs. If you were taking your CATs in an unrealistic way, then those practice results would likely be 'inflated' - meaning that your current skill level is right around 690/700 (and not 740). While taking all of those practice CATs in such a short period of time (and right before taking the Official GMAT) likely lead to some 'burnout' on Test Day, it would still help if you provided a bit more information on how you took your CATs:

1) Did you take the ENTIRE CAT each time (including the Essay and IR sections)?
2) Did you take them at home?
3) Did you take them at the same time of day as when you took your Official GMAT?
4) Did you ever do ANYTHING during your CATs that you couldn't do on Test Day (pause the CAT, skip sections, take longer breaks, etc.)?
5) Did you ever take a CAT more than once? Had you seen any of the questions BEFORE?

2 - yes
3 - No- Pearson has called me on 29th evening requesting me to change the timings from 1 P M (Which i usually practiced CAT at home till then) to 9 AM in the morning.
4 - Yeah - in some cats i gave a break of 20 min instead of 8 min.
5 - No i never took same CAT again but had seen some questions before in many tests.

Thank you :)

Hi Aditya,

Test Day is a rather specific 'event' - the details are specific and they matter, so you have to train as best as you can for all of them. The more realistic you can make your CATs, the more likely the score results are to be accurate. The more you deviate, the more "inflated" your practice scores can become - and that's likely what happened here. By taking the CATs at home, taking longer breaks, seeing repeat questions, etc., you weren't properly training for the FULL GMAT 'experience.' It also didn't help that you suddenly had to take the GMAT 4 hours earlier in the day than you had planned to. At higher and higher scoring levels, the GMAT becomes really 'sensitive' to wrong answers (especially on 'gettable' questions) - so just a handful of little mistakes could have cost you all of the points that you were looking for.

If you have not done so, then you might consider purchasing the Enhanced Score Report. While the ESR doesn't provide that much information, there are usually a few data points that you can use to define some of the areas that you need to work on. If you purchase the ESR, then I'll be happy to analyze it for you.
