1) Will my GPA be a huge disadvantage if I want to apply to schools in the top 5-25 range?
YES, top 10 schools are usually 3.5 and up
2) Although I am involved in a few projects in an informal/unofficial manner, I am currently unemployed. Is it critical that I have a full-time job with a well-know company at the time of applying? I am applying in R1 2017, for Fall 2018.
It would really help you, a big part of evaluating you as a candidate is determining whether you are a high potential business person. Your ability to secure a job does not paint a good story of your potential if no one will hire you. It becomes distracting you an evaluator
3) Would it be better if I applied in 2018 for 2019? I will have 7 years experience by that time.
Apply when you have the momentum on your side

Thank you for the reply! I've already started applying for roles which interest me and will definitely be employed within the next month.

I'm looking at schools like UCLA, NYU Stern, Duke, Cornell Johnson, Ross, Darden and MIT Sloan. Would you please help me with which schools I'd be competitive for?

Thank you.

Right now, they will all be tough for you since your GPA is low. UCLA will give you the best chance, if you can hot a 730, Cornell and Darden will become an option
