why not e

The sentence implies that the the farmers will benefit from the soya farming, as it has low costs and in doing so, soya farming will help the farmers to create more jobs and generate profits. taking advantage here acts as a modifier to modify the action of soya farming and this is why has to take the ing form, and the two results; generate profit and create employment should be parallel and hence the "to" form before generate.
This is why option E is wrong.

A) taking advantage of the low cost of farming, generate non underlined part demands the use of 'to generate'
B) taking advantage of the low cost of farming, to generate
C) taking advantage of the low cost of farming, generating is not a correct verb usage
D) take advantage of the low cost of farming, generating take advantage should act as a modifier and not as parallel verb
E) take advantage of the low cost of farming, to generate

Meaning:
Low cost of farming is an advantage. This advantage will enable farmers to produce high quality protein year-round.

A present participle modifier does not necessarily refer to the subject of the previous clause - thus here "taking advantage" does not refer to "Soya farming". A present participle modifier can be used as verb modifier ( e.g., to express how the action is done or what the effect of the action is) - Here "taking advantage" refers to the verb "will enable".

Moroever please note the punctuation error in the non-underlined part: the comma after "profits" should not be there. Comma + and joins two clauses, but " to generate sustainable profits" and "to create employment" are not clauses.

Hi Shaheensingh17 ,

Important thing here is to notice the elements of ||ism.

The meaning of the sentence is it will enable farmers to do the following:
1. provide high quality protein year-around.
2. generate sustainable profits.
3. create employment.

So, in the non underlined portion 1st and 3rd have to before them. So, we must have to before 2nd point as well. Hence, option A,C and D are out.

Now "taking advantage of the low cost of farming" defines the benefit they will get when they will provide high quality protein. Hence, it should be added as a modifier. But in choice E, it is not doing so. Hence, E is also out.

We are left with B.

Note that this question is testing ||ism and meaning of the sentence. Let me know in case of any concern.

Original Sentence : taking advantage should modify "commercial Soya farming will enable farmers to provide high quality protein year-around". Also to generate and to create employment should follow parallelism.

A) taking advantage of the low cost of farming, generate
to generate
B) taking advantage of the low cost of farming, to generate
C) taking advantage of the low cost of farming, generating
to generate
D) take advantage of the low cost of farming, generating
taking advantage, to generate
E) take advantage of the low cost of farming, to generate
taking advanatage

In countries where protein deficiency is endemic,
commercial Soya farming will enable farmers
---to provide high quality protein year-around,
------taking advantage of the low cost of farming,
---generate sustainable profits,
---and to create employment.

Parallel structure. Hence "generate" needs to be parallel to "to provide" and "to create", so B and E left.
"taking advantage of the low cost of farming" modifies the previous clause. B is the correct answer.

A) taking advantage of the low cost of farming, generate
B) taking advantage of the low cost of farming, to generate
C) taking advantage of the low cost of farming, generating
D) take advantage of the low cost of farming, generating
E) take advantage of the low cost of farming, to generate

Last part of sentence needs parallelism. We know this because of use of "and". Since non underlined portion has to create employment... We need to generate. This eliminates A, C and D. Now we are left between B and E. Taking advantage vs take advantage. Take is a verb that will not match an subject. (E) out. We need taking advantage. "Taking advantage... phrase is a modifier"

Correct answer (B)
