A fact is being presented for a future event "meeting between Poland and Russia in Warsaw in the football Euro Cup on Tuesday".
Facts are always stated using Simple verb forms. In this case it will be Simple Present tense. Hence correct representation will be "Passions run high"

This option contains the incorrect usage of the present perfect tense. This sentence is in present tense, so 'have run' is wrong.

B - Incorrect:

The verb should be in present tense run and not ran.

C - Incorrect:

The past perfect tense does not align with the tense of the sentence.

D - Correct:

This option contains the correct use of the adverb 'high' to modify the verb 'run'.

E - Incorrect

The continuous action 'were running highly' is illogical.

Given statement is in present tense and should be rectified keeping in mind the present tense.

(A) have run high (Present perfect is used, hence wrong)

(B) ran high (Past tense is used, hence wrong)

(C) had run highly ( Past perfect is used, hence wrong )

(D) run high (Correct )

(E) were running highly (Past tense is used, hence wrong )

what is exactly wrong with A?
I assume that the event takes place in the present time, so I picked D. However, I still want to know whether SC questions will have both tenses in present perfect?

Both tenses can be present perfect, if the timing of the verbs requires so. Example:

Although I have put in my utmost efforts, you have not improved a bit.

Can somebody please explain why option "a" is wrong? why the usage of have is wrong here.
