I know this is technically possible but it sounds a little like they're just trying to be polite and don't really mean that. Similar to the team exercise where if you have the option to participate and you choose not to then they say it won't hurt your chances - but does anyone really believe that?

Yup. I believe that. I know truckloads of people who did not go for the team exercise and got in. I also know someone who was interviewed - then waitlisted and then dinged last year while another one who was NOT interviewed in R1 but was in R2 (he improved his GMAT from 740 to 770) and got in.

Do you know of anyone who went for a Skype interview and did not attend team exercise and got in?
I know this is super specific.

Okay here goes my interview experience

I interviewed with a Ross' 16 alum in a Starbucks. It was really conversational and he made sure to let me know that upfront. He had gone through my resume before and asked these questions.

1. Tell me about yourself
2. So Why MBA?
3. Why Ross?
4. *points to a specific bullet point on the resume* - this looks interesting - tell me more about this
5. How do you think you will contribute to Ross?
6. Working in education, you must have come across many conflicts. Tell me about one such experience.
7. Questions for me.

We ended up chatting for about 15-20 mins after the interview about his experience in Ann Arbor and just generally about Ross and a few mutual connections. Interview lasted for about 45 minutes (including the questions and follow-ups).

Sent a thank you email. Received a prompt response.

I am pumped for the team exercise now :)

MBAClassof2020 - sorry man. Even my GMAT Club cred does not allow me to know so many people. But here's what: If you interview with an alum in Mumbai, you can extend your stay till the team exercise. My interviewer said that he will open up a few slots in the coming weeks.

Already booked a slot for Skype interview. Changing that would be hard.

Interesting. Didn’t know that Ross puts a lot of emphasis on GMAT.

For waitlisted candidates that is the only thing that you can update. I guess rest of his profile was strong.

No. He/She will first reach out via the portal and then probably move over to email.

Any info on the team exercise? Everyone makes it sound easy but there just isn't a lot of info out there about it. I'm going to do it because I want to have as many positive impressions as possible.

Same here. I also feel it's a great way to meet potential candidates, which is difficult if you can't manage a campus interview.
