Since our calculation is relatively straightforward, we'll just do it.
This is a Precise approach.

8/2 = 4 icecubes fit in the length.
4/2 = 2 icecubes fit in the width.
5/2 = 2.5 so only 2 icecubes fit in the height.

In total, 4*2*2 = 16 icecubes fit.

(D) is our answer.

The trick in the question is to identify the fact that the height of the refrigerator is 5in
This implies that only 2 layers of ice cubes can be stored (as the side of the cube is 2 inches- 5/2= 2.5)

So the number of ice cubes = Volume of refrigerator(usable)/Volume of cube= 8*4*4/2*2*2= 16

Hence the answer is D

Solution:

We have to consider the height of the ice compartment as 4 inches since we are assuming we are trying to fit whole ice cubes into the compartment. Thus the usable volume of the compartment is 8 x 4 x 4 in^3 and since the volume of each ice cube is 2 x 2 x 2 = 8 in^3, the number of ice cubes that can fit into the compartment is (8 x 4 x 4)/8 = 16.

Answer: D
