Re: A certain restaurant that regularly advertises through the mail has [#permalink]
since there are 1040 cover letters, therefore no:of coupons sent across with letters = 2 * 1040 =>2080
Remaining coupons = 3000 - 2080
= 920
Hence, A

Solution

Given:
    • A certain restaurant advertises through mail
    • It has 1040 cover letters and 3000 coupons in stock
    • In its next mailing, each envelope will contain 1 cover letter and 2 coupons

To find:
    • How many coupons will remain in stock after mailing, if all cover letters in stock are used

Approach and Working:
Each envelope will contain 1 cover letter
    • Therefore, if all cover letters are used, then number of envelopes = 1040

Also, each envelope will contain 2 coupons
    • Therefore, number of coupons used = 1040 * 2 = 2080

Hence, number of coupons that remain in stock = 3000 – 2080 = 920

Hence, the correct answer is option A.

A. 920

B. 1,040

C. 1,500

D. 1,960

E. 2,080

Since all 1,040 cover letters were used, twice as many coupons, or 2,080 coupons, were used. Therefore, there are 3,000 - 2,080 = 920 coupons left.

Since there are 1040 cover letters so coupons used are double - 2080
Remaining coupons - 3000 - 2080 = 920

Total number of cover letters = 1040

Total number of coupons = 3000

Total number of coupons exhausted in mailing = 1040*2 = 2080

Thus, total number of coupons left = 3000 - 2080 = 920

Thus, the correct option is A.

Re: A certain restaurant that regularly advertises through the mail has [#permalink]
If there are 1,040 cover letters and each envelope contains 1 cover letter, then the number of envelopes that can be sent is 1,040.

Since each envelope also contains 2 coupons, the total number of coupons that will be used is 1,040 * 2 = 2,080.

To find the number of coupons remaining in stock after the mailing, we need to subtract the used coupons from the total number of coupons in stock:

Remaining coupons = Total coupons - Used coupons = 3,000 - 2,080 = 920

Therefore, there will be 920 coupons remaining in stock after this mailing, which corresponds to option (A).
