Re: ISB Profile Evaluation - Tools for B-School Profile Evaluation [#permalink]
Hi!

New to the forum, my name is akash, i am a textile designer by training. Finished my bachelor's from NIFT, bangalore and then went on to study at NID Ahmedabad. Did textile design in both the schools. I also had a semester exchange at NID to ENSCI, paris.

Work experience consists of 2 internships 2 months each and 2 graduation projects 6 months each. Worked for a year at a textile mill in surat, then worked at a design studio in bangalore and now engaged with the development sector.

My background is very vague I guess and my core skills are in textile and business development in this field. I feel that as a creative, your voice is not heard as much and people look up to the b school guys in the team for final decision making. This is the reason to consider applying. I am late for 21 intake i guess so i am considering the 22 intake instead.

I have identified isb and hec as some schools that are of my interest. But i am not sure. Working on my gmat right now, mock scores are about 610 but i know it needs to be better i guess. Just wanted to know of such a profile is considered at a B school like isb?

Re: ISB Profile Evaluation - Tools for B-School Profile Evaluation [#permalink]
Hi Team,

It will be helpful if you guys can evaluate my profile for ISB:

10TH - 91%
12TH - 88.46%
B.TECH Mechanical engineering - 7.4/10 CGPA
GMAT - 720 (Verbal - 39, Quants - 49, IR - 5, AWA - 4)

Work experience - 10 months in a manufacturing firm and 2 years in a pharmaceutical consulting firm

My first 10 months of work experience in the manufacturing firm included engaging customers, providing a product-based solution to bulk material handling plants. In my tenure, I have improved the existing inventory management, designed a process that led to increased production with decreased operational cost. I worked on another project where I did desk research to identify the key steel-producing plants across countries and converted potential per area that could help me clustering the plants onto groups based on their proximity.

In my 2 years of tenures in the pharmaceutical consulting industry, I have been closely working with clients to help them in decision making. I have been part of projects related to Digital promotions and have helped in identifying key targets, measuring the past impact of promotions, and allocating of media dollars to optimize the promotional spend

Extracurricular - I have been part of a program where we taught underprivileged children; In college, I have volunteered various programs conducted by a club to look after the safety of stray dogs; I have been the head of the sports club for a year and also Robotics club

My future goal is to be a part of a strategic consulting organization where I will have a key role in making decisions for the clients that can impact a large section of society.

MBA will help me to gain knowledge in broader aspects and improve my decision-making and team-building skills through various group projects and case study format of pedagogy.

Thanks,
Sumit

Hello Nightfuryy,
You may want to aim for at least a 30 point increase in your GMAT score to make your profile competitive for ISB. Also, it will help you to talk about your accomplishments at work and leadership than providing a job description in your essays.
For your EC, are you involved in any EC and Volunteering activities that are recent?

Thank you very much RUCHIPCONSULTING for the valuable input, but I do not have any attempt left to appear for GMAT this year. So, I will have to stick with this score for my application.
As per my EC, I have donated blankets to poor children of an orphanage in Kolkata with the contribution from my college's alumni circle in Feb 2020. Will it be enough, given the COVID-19 pandemic from the last 6 months?

Hello Nightfuryy,

Your experience and your profile is quite promising for schools such as ISB.

You can spin a great story around your career progression. Extracurriculars look dated. Again remember it's not about just adding extra curricular it's more about
what does it say about you as a person. Why are you different?

It's great that you have helped people during COVID times, however it has to be something that brings in a tangible longterm impact.

Your GMAT score is the only challenge - it's a good score, only that with the competition you will be facing it might be the only challenge.

You still have time till Jan to work on it - my suggestion would be to work on it in parallel along with your applications to give it another shot.

If you can improve by a 30-40 points it will improve your probability of admit for sure.

Hope this helps.
