Hi guys, a qq. I have a GMAT online test tomorrow. I was thinking of using my convertible laptop in a way such that only the screen is displayed in front of me and the laptop keyboard goes behind the screen(Like a presentation mode) . Do you think that's allowed in the test? Or should i use the laptop in the normal laptop mode?

I can’t think of too many issues with that but why? What would you gain by doing that? Are you trying to elevate it?

Thanks For the reply bb . Keeping the laptop that way will just keep the screen closer to me. Given that the whiteboard already adds to the space between the screen and me.

I probably wouldn't do that. What if you need to use the chat window during the test?

Hi Ajitesh, will it be ok if I use the touchscreen to type?

I'm not sure. I think they won't object to it (as long as you're not using the touchscreen for the online whiteboard), but I really don't know.

Most likely, they won't even get to know that you're using the touchscreen.

More good news: the Examity user interface for the new GMAT Online with AWA, select section order, and instant scoring (starting 4/8/21) appears to be much more logical and intuitive than the former one.

Sorry Pearson Vue!

That is great to know! So we no longer have to wait 30 mins before the test for the magical link to pop up?
It would be nice if the quirks are resolved and having an instant score is a huge relief too!

So with the GMAT online format, the maximum times one could take the exam is twice? (once and the one retake allowed) and to do so it would cost
(2*$250 = $500)

Is my understanding accurate

Yes. Since September 2020, you can only take the gym at online two times. This seems to be the case as we switch to a new online test provider. It is a mystery why 🤷‍♂️

Edit: Are the proctor issues when people get up during the 5-minute break still continuing?

It does not appear to be so. I have not heard any more nightmare stories.

I've discovered that Examity requires test-takers to download a secure browser called ESSecureBrowser.

There might be some problems with compatibility, at least for Mac users, if the documentation is to be trusted. According to the software's system requirements for Mac users, the latest supported operating system is Mac OS Catalina 10.15.1, but I am currently running Mac OS Big Sur 11.2.1, for example.

This doesn't necessarily mean that Examity's ESSecureBrowser won't work on newer Apple computers and operating systems (the software system requirements simply might not have been updated for a while), but for now it's definitely a concern. I don't know whether Windows users are in the same boat.

If necessary for software compatibility purposes, then you could always partition your hard drive and boot a volume with a different, older operating system, but let's hope these types of fancy technological workarounds are not needed, as they are neither practical nor feasible for most. (Ask me about the time I installed Windows on my MacBook Air just to take the At-Home GRE.)

Finally, I'm going to assume that the GMAT Online's extra break is located between the 1st and 2nd sections, like the test-center GMAT, unless GMAC tells us otherwise—or between the 3rd and 4th sections if for some reason you choose the "classic" order #1 (AWA, IR, Quant, Verbal) instead of the far more popular orders #2 and #3.

Not sure if this is on the thread (way too many comments lol), but do we need a microphone for the exam? My computer doesn’t have a microphone built-in mic, but I have a headset that has a microphone [not sure if I could use that during the exam]; I also have a stand-alone microphone too.

Yes you should have microphones while taking online exams which need listening and dictating methods elsewhere there is no need of microphones. I have some list of best microphones at mic test best list for 2021.

What's the current scheduling situation like for the online GMAT? Do slots fill up really quickly? How soon in advance do I need to schedule an appointment (approximately)? Or are tests pretty much available all the time, whenever I want?

Can't I schedule another GMAT Online Exam? Or am I missing any button where I'd be able to do so?

I've taken the GMAT Online before it allowing the use of a physical whiteboard. Therefore, I was able to retake the online test with the physical whiteboard (this retake was supposedly to not affect me in any way since it was an extra one to compensate people that didn't have the ability to use the physical whiteboard).

Now, it appears that I can't schedule a retake for the GMAT online (or my #3 take)... Is the button to schedule elsewhere? Are there people with similar problems?

It looks like Pearson is counting your first test toward your limit of 2 tests. Only thing I know to tell you is to contact customer support.
