Hi all! I'm taking the GMAT Online exam this Saturday and am starting to get nervous about the possible issues that could arise with taking the test at home! Wifi, proctor interruptions, etc!! But I also have a few specific concerns. It seems there are very strict requirements regarding surroundings when taking the test. I saw somewhere about nothing with writing on it allowed nearby...does that mean I need to take down the wall art behind my desk for the exam? I have travel posters, etc that are decorative but include names of cities. Could someone also clarify where to keep my phone? I'm getting mixed signals from it should be "as far away as possible" to it should be "accessible incase your proctor needs to contact you"!

Thanks for the advice :)

If I use a PC/Desktop for the GMAT Online, must my PC have a built-in Microphone/sound?

My PC doesn't have a Microphone built in it... But I can't use any headset as well. Any thoughts?

By the way, thanks Brian, other answer was very helpful!

Get a webcam with a microphone built in or a standalone microphone... like back in the 90’s 😂

Don't worry. It will all go very smoothly. It will be a better idea though to take down those wall posters if you can. And regarding any technical issues in between, proctors will keep the test paused till you come back online on the system.

Also, put your phone on vibrate (not on silent). The proctor will tell you to keep it a few meters away (basically out of reach when viewed from the webcam). But in case of any issues, they might contact you. Hence, keep it where you can see it and listen that it is vibrating. Don't worry, the proctor will help you with this as well.

Don't worry about anything at this stage. Chill dude. Enjoy and beat the GMAT! :) All the best!

Apologies if this has already been asked but if I cancel my online GMAT score during the allotted window, can I later see what my score was and pay to reinstate it? I'm taking the online test Monday and am getting stressed about the test, especially with not being able to cancel after 72 hours. For reference, there are no in-person test centers in my town (they are 3 hours away) so my only option is to take it online.

You cannot cancel gmat online scores. But you don’t need to. Read the first post in this topic for more info....

I assume that takes care of the question?

Hi ,
I understand one can preview his or her unofficial score. But can you accept or cancel the Enhanced Gmat Online score after April 8th , 2021 ?

Hi bb

Is it okay if I write my Gmat Online (at home) via my work computer? I am more comfortable using the work computer and I am not sure if I should do these last minute changes. I saw the below comment while registering:

"Consider using a personal computer instead of a work computer. Work computers often have more restrictions and corporate firewalls that may prevent successful exam delivery."

Could you please suggest what do you feel would be better?

Thanks in advance.

Sure. You can use your work computer. Just make sure that you take the test and pass it. It is correct that when you work computers have certain permissions or resources limited and that may in some cases impact ability to take the GMAT.

Perfect! Thanks a lot!
I just ran the system checks and everything was fine. I will still keep my personal computer handy in case I would need to switch to that.

Nightmare situation taking the Online test yesterday. Logged in 15 min early to check in and had no issues. Once the proctor left, a significant part of the screen was blocked/frozen by the computer's brightness icon (mac). Was concerned this would impact question visibility, so did not start exam. Waited 20+ min for proctor to come back until they returned and restarted the exam. After that it was fine and completed the quant and verbal section.

And then the madness started - elected to take the IR break and application froze again. Every time the proctor relaunched the exam, it stalled and showed error message saying "sorry, we are experiencing technical difficulties." This happened three times until the proctor finally asked me to restart my computer and log back into the application. I was concerned if it would impact the exam and the proctor said "no, you may resume exam where you left off." I complied and restarted my machine - upon opening testing application, screen said sorry for the inconvenience, you will have to reschedule your exam and file a ticket. Did not get to start IR section, but Quant and Verbal was completed. Not really sure how to move forward - went to GMAC site and filled out the "contact me" page. At this point will wait to hear back and hope for the best. Test center not really an option right now as there's not much availability near me and I can only take the exam on the weekends. Little frustrating but hope it all works out in the coming weeks.

So sorry to hear that. It sounds like everyone is better off waiting until after 4/8/21 to see whether Examity can do a better job than Pearson Vue in combating the frequent technical errors that currently plague the GMAT Online.

To be fair, these types of technical issues and test delivery problems are also common with the other at-home graduate-level standardized exams, such as the GRE at Home (formerly the At-Home GRE) and the LSAT Flex.

FYI - GMAC has confirmed that the optional break is between Quant and Verbal and that ESR is not coming any time soon - more details are in this post: https://gmatclub.com/forum/a-new-break- ... 51660.html

Sorry if this has been asked, I was unable to find anything.
I’m scheduled 4/2, I am not ready so I was trying to reschedule. But the system only lets me schedule until 4/7 because of the new gmat online coming.
I am not ready so I do not think I should take it at this point, anyone know how to reschedule? Should I just cancel? I wanted to get as much money back as I could.

For those who want to reschedule an online exam for after April 7th, the official FAQ gives the following instructions:

"If you schedule an online appointment prior to April 8 and would like to reschedule to an exam appointment on or after April 8, you will need to cancel your original online appointment, and reach out to our Customer Care team to receive a voucher to book your new GMAT™ online appointment on or after April 8 at a reduced registration fee."
