If you go to the expanded reply page to any post, on the right hand side is a font color thing. Click the color you want, then copy and paste the BBCode into your profile edit screen.

For those of you who requested extensions on accepting admissions, how much additional time did Columbia give you?

I actually got shut down. When I called, they told me they don't really do extensions, but told me to send an email anyway. I sent an email, and they responded that they don't grant extensions. So that's a bummer.

Oh man! That sucks! I was really hoping to hear about scholarships before paying the deposit :? !

I'm interested in doing PE for social enterprises...so its slightly more watered down finance than banking :)

hey man, stick to the script:

Why PE? "I just love helping companies reshape their capital structures in order to drive synergies and growth."

And on pay: "Obviously if a transaction is successful the firm will achieve a competitive rate of return, but I'm more focused on achieving a positive outcomes by working in a team context to develop solutions for the deal."

For the folks attending Columbia Connect this week, the schedule has been slightly updated on the Admitted Students site, check it out. Friday events now start at 9am instead of 8:45, yay!

Hmmm, I'm very unproductive at work today....

Did any of you get a phone call from an Hermes Society student after you submitted your acceptance (online form through the application login website)? Someone from my hometown, who went to my undergrad university, and who is pursuing classes in my intended mba concentration (he was clearly picked out to call me in particular) gave me a ring. So nice!

LOL to CBSoverBooth and Moss!!

Hey all, I am coming to CBS married--anyone else? Another question--what schools are you turning down to come here? My other admits were Booth, NYU, and Darden. No scholarships to anywhere.

EDIT: never mind--I see people have that information posted next to their name.

I am coming in married as well :)

I applied to MIT (R2) and Wharton (R2) as well. Just got an interview invite from Wharton but I emailed them back with my official application withdrawal. As jackhrobbins said, no thanks to Philly! Plus my husband I have settled in nicely in NYC.

Wow, turning down Wharton interview! :)

I am coming in kind of married? My wedding is actually in Sept so I am sure I will be crazy busy. . . (Why did I plan to get married as I am starting b-school? I wish I had the foresight...)

I only applied to NYU and Georgetown other than CBS. I withdrew from Georgetown, and am sadly turning down NYU even though they gave me 25K in scholarship. I just think CBS is worth that extra bucks.

I'm coming in married too - hubby is from NY so we knew we wanted to settle down there permanently. B-school was the right transition for us timing-wise with moving & my career. I applied to Columbia ED, luckily I didn't have to fill out any other apps!

Can't wait for Friday - work today was especially brutal. I just started a new job at the beginning of Jan so i was hoping to hang on until the end of July, but I'd hate to miss the world tour. Definitely planning on spending August (until orientation) at the beach! :)

Too all of my new MBA friends: I want to let you know about a great place and one of my favorite bars to get dinner and chill out. The Amsterdam Ale House on 76th & Amsterdam Avenue. Best sweet-potato fries and amazing burgers/pulled pork. They have like a 100 beers on tap including Stone Arrogant Bastard Ale. I highly recommend eating the sweet-potato fries with mayo instead of ketchup; trust me.

I am technically one of the first members of the class of 2013 because I had to defer a year due to military retaining issues. I was ticked off about it but what can you do. Life happens. I live in the midwest where most people don't know about Columbia and think of NYC as hell on earth (I am from NYC so I beg to differ). I really look forward to meeting all of you guys because I have spent a year surrounded by people (my spouse's family particularly) who think I am making a huge mistake because the economy is going to hell in their opinion and that I should keep my safe government job. They think I am arrogant and naive to think Columbia will open doors for me.

I tell you guys this because I want to express how excited I am to finally start meeting my classmates that I had to wait a year to meet, and be around people who are as excited as I am and realize how amazing this experience is going to be, rather than have to defend my goals and decisions to people who don't understand what a top MBA means to a person's potential career impacts.
