I called Admissions about getting an extension, and was told I need to email my request, but that they're usually granted. I'm not sure how long it would be for though.

what is up with CBS not giving money? are their endowments really that much smaller?

i suspect their answer would be: "We're CBS *complain*!"

what pre-mba internship?? enlighten me!

Check this out! the-myth-of-pre-mba-internship-107154.html

I think its helpful if you're a) switching careers tracks, or b)trying to get into a competitve career, or c) just want to explore an area of interest before bschool. For ex, I'm interested in exploring microfinance before the fall and will hopefully get to "try it out" this summer.

Oh man, NYU just awarded me $25K for the first year in scholarship.....This is making this decision more difficult now....as I doubt CBS would give me nearly as much.

URGHGHGHG...helP? advice?

I'm in a somewhat similar situation with Ross versus CBS, and I'm leaning towards Ross. I have realized that the CBS brand name is awesome for finance but for marketing/GM (my areas of interest) they're pretty similar in terms of recruiting and the thought of minimal debt and greater career flexibility is too hard to pass up...

Hmm...thats tough! Well, there are a couple of questions to think about...a) how does nyu's marketing program compare to CBS'? b) WHo are the recruiters that come to nyu vs CBS? Any differences there? c) what about employment post-mba? do nyu marketing grads have a better shot than cbs or vice versa or is there no significant difference? d) can CBS match nyu's offer? have you told them about it? if not, you should and e) do you plan on working in the states or abroad?

I ask that last question because if you plan on working abroad, cbs has a significantly stronger name than nyu does (this is something that applies to me personally and that would carry a lot of weight if I were making this decision).

If you want to stay in the US, I would go for NYU. It seems like its marketing program is comparable to that of CBS'. Plus, graduating with less debt is a huge blessing!!

Anyway, let us know what you decide!

I just wanted to add one more thing...

One of my very good friends got a full ride to nyu last year and had an offer from cbs (with no money of course). She wanted to really wanted cbs but chose nyu because of the allure of zero debt.

She always tells me how very happy she is that she made that decision. She is recruiting at all of all of the same consulting firms (mckinsey, bain, bcg, etc) that come to cbs (which I was honestly a little surprised to hear...i didn't know that those firms recruited at nyu as well) and i think she either mentions her scholarship/award or has that on her resume so recruiters get impressed when they hear it.

Anyway, just wanted to share her story.

global - thank you for chiming in. I have heard a lot of great advice on this forum, so glad i found this thing :)

good for your friend - if it were between full ride and 0 money, i would go to NYU hands down. but, my plan now is to wait for CBS to tell me if they give me any money. (I had told them about NYU but the thing is I kind of already put the deposit down for CBS lol, doh!) I mean $2K is a small forfeit in the face of a $30K benefit, but....still, not sure how CBS is going to react to my NYU thing now.

I'm not really sure why everyone is saying that CBS doesn't give money. According to the admitted student website, merit scholarship award information hasn't been released yet. While I have no idea how MUCH they're really going to give out, don't start bagging on them before you even have the info yet!

I'm biased because I plan to go to CBS no matter what though. :-D

Eeek josiebella that is tough! I am almost hoping no one gives me money because I really want to go to CBS but I'm so poor I'd need to consider any competitive school who gives me a significant amount. I'm going for Social Enterprise though, and I feel like CBS is pretty unparalled in terms of specific curriculum I want and clubs/experiential learning. Keep us posted...

cidneymba, I believe CBS gives a max of $10,000/year for need-based, and merit-based seems pretty limited, yes? I'd love to be wrong though!
