In the last few weeks, I've been getting tons of PMs from various members regarding pre-MBA internship opportunities. How does one find such an opportunity? What kind of opportunities are out there? Is it something one must do before starting his or her first year in the MBA program?

Pre-MBA internship is not too common but others have done it. (In my opinion, the opportunities are out there for people who are seeking for such opportunity) Some spent time with a PE/VC, etc to build his/her resume to get into the industry that he/she is attracted to. If you are really interested in pre-MBA internship, you will have to network a lot. Some MC firms also host pre-MBA social events and opportunities targeted towards ppl admitted to prestigious MBA programs.

For example, previous members of this forum:
* Did his/her pre MBA internship with a healthcare company before attending Kellogg
* Did his/her pre MBA internship with a PE firm before attending Wharton

I did a pre MBA internship with a VC firm in order to build my resume targeted towards technology firms in the West Coast. But the experience also gave me tons to discuss during my IB internship interviews. The pre MBA internship gave me the opportunity to learn a lot about how VC firms work with its portfolio companies, etc.

If you are interested in doing a pre MBA internship, remember that the opportunity may be paid or unpaid. In addition, this probably means that either, you will have to quit your job sooner than planned, or sacrifice your summer (right before bschool) working.

I think the pre-MBA internship generally falls into the category of "it's all who you know". With that said, two of the more structured programs that folks did were:

P&G Brand Camp (this is only a week, but they do make internship offers at the end)
Deloitte Consulting Immersion Program (DCIP)

I think there are some other opportunities for minorities as well.

Does anyone know if the P&G Brand Camp is only for minorities? It's not entirely clear on their website.

Thanks guys. Does anyone know of programs that aren't specifically for minorities? This sounds interesting, but I don't know if I qualify.

what about international students? How do you pursue such internships ?

I'm an international and I'm doing a preMBA internship in the US. I made it happen the most common way (IMO) - networking. Of course, it's easier to do from Canada than overseas. For visa reasons, however, the position is unpaid.

Have any MBA students matriculating in Fall 2012 had any luck with securing pre-MBA internships this year? How have responses been so far for any inquiries?

I know many of you have just heard back with your acceptances, but I wanted to see if I could gauge the market. I am planning on matriculating in 2013 and wanted to check on best practices before I start networking. I am interested in management consulting, so any specific examples or observations in that industry would be most appreciated.

I did my internship program though Internlatinamerica Hospitality and Tourism.
Internlatinamerica provides internships in various fileds like engineering, HR, Fashion. I think you should contact them. Visit the website of internlatinamerica
