if money doesnt matter (i.e. consortium vs. CBS which gives very little $$), then cbs. if you really dont care about the loans the name/brand of CBS goes much further than NYU. I believe theres a reason Harvard/CBS/Penn are often lumped together and NYU is not really thrown into the same sandbox. Stern is a great school, but it just doesnt have the same reputation. I would talk to NYU Stern students that were accepted to CBS and chose to not attend (if you can find them !) and ask them why and if they would make the same decision again.

Ive heard anecdotally that there are many who chose NYU; and would not have done the same thing. (clearly no idea what that true sample size is, but i can see why that would be the case)

this seems to make a lot of sense. :) thanks! I am 99% sure CBS is the right choice for me!

awesome ! look fwd to meeting you if so!

I will also come to the CBS Connect event in April.

Re: housing: A friend of mine who currently studies at CBS told me that a lot of people apply for student housing to live there for the first month and use that time to look for apartments in NY. Apparently, you can still drop the student housing within the first month.

I'd personally prefer to be close to CBS. There is tons of stuff going on there in terms of evening events and so on, and as someone said before, it's always good if you can quickly get a suit and take a shower without travelling for 30min.

Hey everyone, I accepted my offer of admission early last fall (I applied early decision). Just yesterday I received an email at the address I used to apply to Columbia with an invite to "ELIXIO", a "private online community". The link referenced what will be my Columbia email address, so it clearly has something to do with my status as an admitted student. Did anyone else get this? Anyone familiar with ELIXIO that can offer any insight about it?
I also received this email. Not sure what it is.

It looks, smells and tastes like a virus. Have you guys try and access it?

I signed up last night after finding a few articles verifying its identity: https://www.guardian.co.uk/media/pda/201 ... s-emerging

Of course, whether or not it's useful is a whole other question.

Does any one know when Kroll does the background check? How soon after we submit the deposit?

My work doesn't know that I applied to business school (let alone got accepted) and I am not planning on quitting until a couple of months from now (early summer). But I'm worried about Kroll calling my employer sooner than I would like...is this even a concern? Does Kroll mention why they are inquiring about someone? Part of me doesn't really care about work anymore (lol) but I'd like my boss to at least hear the news from me rather than a phone call from HR.

You have to start the Kroll process from the Todo list

does anyone know if they would extend the deadline to accept the offer? I know they give us a month but I was wondering if I could get a few extra days. Anyone have experience with that? Thanks!

Yes, Kroll appears after you get an email from CBS saying they received your check so no worries!

Hi all, and congrats! I just joined this forum and am also in the same boat as bluesci, in that I'd like a bit of extra time before putting down the deposit - though I'd actually need more like an extra month. Anyone know if they're open to this?

Financial aid is going to be a big determining factor for me, and I understand CBS will only give need-based of up to $10,000/year, which isn't much given a roughly $80,000/year budget estimate. If another school offers $$ I'd need to consider it, though I really want to go to CBS so I'm pretty torn.

I would just call the Adm office to find out if they can extend the deadline for you. I am sure it's been done before. Out of curiosity, what other schools are you considering?

Awesome...I couldn't see it either lol

So since the deadline is May 2011, that answers my original question and that is perfect timing. I was planning to quit end of May but now I'm getting interested in this whole "pre-mba" internship. So may be resigning sooner...we'll see!
