I am a public health nurse and I want to eventually move into management position in the healthcare sector. I also have a few years of experience in clinical research prior to pursuing nursing. I am open to new career routes as well such as finance, banking, marketing, consulting. I am preferably looking for a mba program with a strong healthcare focus. These schools offer (Rotman mba vs Schulich mba vs Degroote mba) mba programs with a healthcare focus. I have also looked into Queens and Ivey but it does not have a healthcare focus. My plan is to do the programs part-time as I am cannot afford to pay the tuition especially for Rotman and Schulich while being full time. I am also looking for a program with an INTERNSHIP.
Rotman part-time mba does not offer any internship (full-time does offer internship) and I am wondering if I will get the same advantages as a Rotman full-time mba, in terms of networking and recruitment opportunities. Degroote offers a full time mba including 3 co-op placements with a health service management focus however, does reputation of mba programs matter with job search/career prospects?
I am wondering what are the career prospects like for individuals who have pursued mba with a health care focus (and with no internships). What are some examples of positions held by alumnus who have pursued MBA with a focus on healthcare? Anyone with a nursing background who have pursued mba? What is the ROI?
Any suggestions on schools for mba program with health care focus (preferably with internship)?
Also, what is the transition like to switch from healthcare to finance or consulting without previous business work experience?
Thank you. Your suggestions are much appreciated.
