Quant: Not adaptative, overly easy ... and I found a question that did not have the right answer listed!
Verbal: Seems like it was taken entirely from 1000CR, 1000SC and 3000RC.
Scoring: What A joke. Please laugh with me. Score was Q:53 V:56 T:790. (for those who don't know, the highest GMAT score is 51)

Well I agree 53 and 56 is a joke , but I know that I read in two GMAT experiences elsewhere where they got Quant of 52, so 51 is not the highest I suppose.

Hi newborn,

Some people say that our tests score a little low, but I can't say for certain whether or not that is true. What I can say, however, is that the first test you ever take may not be representative. Specifically, did you take the test cold? If you've done a lot of work beforehand, you might get a good sense of what your score will be; on the other hand, if you've never seen a Data Sufficiency or Critical Reasoning question before in your life, then simple familiarity could be worth 20 or 30 points on the next go around.

That being said, it's all speculation. There is an easy solution: take another test! There are a number of free tests available, including the two official practice tests at www.mba.com; see if your score stay consistent across a second try.

What's the opinion on McGraw Hill's practice tests? I read some posts earlier that said the book isn't very helpful, but what about the tests that come on the CD?

I have "McGraw-Hill 2008 Edition GMAT" and "McGraw-Hill Conquering GMAT Verbal and Writing."

I did a practice test on the CD that came with McGraw-Hill 2008 Edition GMAT and scored a 660. Is that test computer adaptive? Or is it simply just questions by order (so my actual score on the GMAT would be much lower than 660?)

Thanks for your help!

Hi All,
I took my GMAT last month and scored a 650 :( . However, in all my practice tests which included GMAT prep,Manhattan GMAT and Kaplan i was scoring in the range of ~680 - 710. Now, I am taking the GMAT again in a month and i am not sure what tests to take.
Here are my queries -

- I am done with the 6 Kaplan tests (from Premier 2013). Should i buy the 2014 Premier book and will those 6 test that it comes with be any different from 2013.
- I have re-taken all the 6 Manhattan tests already (scoring well above 700) - but i have seen a lot of repeats so the scores don't really count.
- I am planning to save the best for the last (GMAT prep). Although, i do believe that there will be repeat questions there too. Any tips?
- Should i invest in 800 score (5 tests) ? Any suggestions here ?
- What about 5 tests ($40) from Manhattan review (not Manhattan GMAT) ? Any suggestions on this ?

Is there any other prep or test out there that you think can help me beat the GMAT in a month ? I am really hoping to break the 700 barrier. I was well prepared the first time but very disappointed with the 650.

Appreciate your inputs.

Hi lullakaran,

First you need to tell us your break up of 650, though I feel you lacked something in both the sections. You have several options here:
1) First and the best: GMAT has released two additional paid CATs recently. You may avail that. Nothing can be better than GMATPreps.
Hit this link for details: 5-things-about-the-new-gmat-prep-exam-pack-160122.html

No you should not save GMATPrep for the last. Such question banks are no less than gold mines. You must do them well ahead of your exam. A week before the exam you must have exhausted all the questions from this pool. For example, if you take this CAT few days before the exam you must score close to 800. You will see mostly repeat questions but don't worry about that. Understand that writing these exams at the end will not give you sufficient time to go through these questions.

2) For Quant: As bb said GMATClub offers some tests. In fact one for free. Believe you me the quant is awesome. You will get really good 700+ level questions which are as much close to actual GMAT questions as possible. MGMAT's quant is tough but not on same line of GMAT. They make questions difficult by complicating it while GMAT uses tricks/layers to make a question difficult.

3) You may buy extra questions from mba.com. See "GMATPrep Question Pack 1". Although, they aren't test but an invaluable resource. All actual retired questions.

4) As I can see that you have already written many tests, I suggest you to pay more heed to quality than quantity.

I hope this post helps.

Hey.

I am getting variable scores in Quant from various tests.
Example:
In MGMAT(3-4 tests): 45-46.
In Kaplan(3-4 tests): 49-51.
GMAT club (3-4 tests): 48-51

Is MGMAT quant tougher than the rest?

Due to my quant, my score may vary. Which score should I take as the TRUE SCORE?

Please help...

Thanks in advance...

Yes MGMAT quant is tougher than other tests. If you are able to score 45-46 in MGMAT Quant you probably will able to score 48-50 on GMATPrep and in fact on real test as well provided you dont do any blunder in those tests.
GMATClub's Quant questions I find closest to GMATPrep but little tougher. But nothing can beat GMATPrep. These are the only official and closest to actual tests.

PS: If you are sparing GMATPrep for last week or so then reconsider your plan. You should exhaust all GMATPrep tests before a week at least so that you can solve every single question of it with one or two revisions. These are my personal thoughts and the same I recommend to my students.

Thanks a ton for the reply prateekbhatt and motivator..
I haven't tried GMATPrep. Will surely do it at the earliest (Actually I wanted to be fully prepared before I take them. And whenever I give MGMAT cat, i just dont feel like giving the GMATprep.) I have been getting good scores in GMATClub's Quant and Kaplan. I thought after doing well in GMATClub's Quant, my MGMAT score will also improve. MGMAT is tougher than the actual GMAT, right?
I have some time left for the exam. Please suggest ways in which I could get 700+.
Thanks in advance.

Since you have one month left, this is the best time you must start exhausting gmat prep and Og's. By that i mean taking gmat prep atleast 2 times (you wont see a lot of repeat's)

Also once your done with this you can start practicing from Gmat prep compiled files that is posted in the same page.

Mgmat quant is some what tough( more time consuming than real gmat).

I wanted to share my experience: I have written quite a few CAT-s and my scores were more or less the same. For Kaplan users, have in mind, QUANT section is easier than on the actual test, while verbal is rather hard and some problems are of low quality (especially reading is frustrating).
As for MGMAT - Quant section is very hard :)
I really recommend Veritas tests, I guess overall they are the best representatives of real tests.
And here are results for each test:

CAT Total % Quantitive Verbal IR
GMATprep 700 90 46 71 40 90 7 81
KaplanTest 740 97 51 97 34 71 3 25
KaplanTest 710 92 50 88 36 81 4 37
KaplanTest 730 96 51 97 35 76 6 67
KaplanTest 710 92 50 88 38 85 4 37
KaplanTest 730 96 50 88 40 91 7 81
GMATprep 720 94 48 78 41 93 8 92
VeritasTest 720 94 49 83 40 90 5 52
MGMATTest 690 87 48 74 36 81 2.96
VeritasTest 740 97 50 90 41 93 6 67
VeritasTest 740 97 50 90 42 96 6 67

I'm trying to figur out which free CAT I should take next. My real exam is on the 9th of April, and I want to take a CAT this Sunday (29th of May). I've already done the 2 GMATpreps and The Economist mock exam. So that kind of leaves MGMAT, Veritas and Kaplan. I'm trying to get the most accurate one (because I can't really use a big disappointment this close to my test - I've heard some mock exams are way more difficult on Quant than the real deal).

Here's a personal review of Princetonreview Tests and Kaplan Practice Tests --

Quant of Princetonreview tests is sometimes way too easy and sometimes too difficult with nothing in between
Verbal of Princetonreview tests is in fact good especially the RCs which are on a medium to higher difficulty level.

My Princeton Tests scores
Test 1 - 660 (QA - 32/37 , VA - 30/41)
Test 2 - 740 (QA - 28/37 , VA - 35/41)

Quant of Kaplan tests is balanced overall and i think close to actual GMAT questions
Verbal of Kaplan tests is little hard than actual GMAT
Test 1 - 740 (QA - 24/37 , VA - 23/41)
Test 2 - 760 (QA - 34/37 , VA - 30/41)

Hope my post is useful !! :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

I guess that this discussion belongs to a different post. Anyway, 51 is the current highest possible score on either Q and V, regardless of the incongruence of the 60 scale. You don't have to believe me; just do some more research. The only post I've found of somebody claiming a 52 in math ends with the poster discovered as a fake and banned from the forum. Google "800 (Q 52 V 48)".

I would be happy to agree with that, but our database of scores indicates otherwise - take a look at the GMAT Score Calculator/Estimator - if you put 640 as your GMAT, it will calculate the approximate GMAT equivalent of 720. It is based solely on statistics and scores members provided in the past 12-18 months. You're welcome to try to poke holes at it - I am always interested in feedback about this tool.

when I was preparing using Kaplan materials, the highest I scored was 640 or 650. My final score was 750.
