Hello everybody! I will apply next year (R1) for MiM program at different French schools such as HEC Paris and ESSEC and possibly for a MiF program at HEC, ESSEC, ESCP, etc... My dream school is HEC Paris. Can anyone evaluate my profile and give me feedback on how I can improve my future application?

Background and nationality: My name is Bryan, 21 years old and I was born and live in Belgium. My native language is French and I speak English fluently.

Undergrad Information:
I completed my Bachelor in Economics and Management last year and received the following grades: 1st year: 12.43/20 - 2nd year: 14.08/20 - 3rd year: 14.87/20. 2 points I would like to mention is that: first, my school does not provide GPA grade conversion and I am thus unable to compare my academic profile with other students (do you have some experience with Belgian grades?). Secondly, my average grades is partly negatively impacted by my language course (Spanish) where I have a lot of difficulties. Without this course, my average grades increase by more than a point for each year. I also scored with the top grade of my class on financial courses (17/20).
I am currently enrolled in a Master in Economics at my university. For the first semester, I was able to score 16.8/20 and I also had the chance to be a "student assistant" for the course "Applied Financial Instrument" and gave tutorials to students in 3rd-year bachelor.

GMAT/GRE: My GMAT score is the following: 710 Q48V38 IR6

Work experience and leadership: For the moment I did not have the chance to get an internship. Nevertheless, I will have to do an internship next year to complete my master's degree. Concerning leadership, I will talk about this topic in "community and others"

Community and others: I am part of a student investment club managing about 500,000€ of assets. The club invests the money of the members based on equity research presented by the members. I am part of this club since 2018 and I was promoted managing director two years ago. As a managing director, I am in charge of a team of 8 analysts and have to train and help the analysts with their equity research. I am also part of the board and I am responsible for external communication.
I also take part to numerous finance-related event during the year such as the "Career Track" which allows 30 top Belgian students to do workshops with companies active in investment banking and asset management.

Post Master goals: My main goals after my master's degree would be to start working in equity research as a sell-side analyst to acquire deep knowledge in terms of business analysis and valuation. Then I would like to move in buy-side and evolve from analyst to portfolio manager and ideally fund manager. I am really passionate about asset management and would like to work in this industry in the long-run.

Anything else? While my profile seems to be a better fit for the master in finance, I would prefer to enroll in a master in management for different reasons: Students in Master in Finance generally have internship experience and for that reason, my profile would be probably weakened due to the lack of internship on my application. Secondly, I do not feel ready to work in 2 years and I would prefer to continue my studies for 3/4 years before entering the job market. Therefore, the master in management seems to be the perfect program for me. It will allow me to increase my professional experience (with the gap year at HEC Paris for example) while allowing me to have the same courses as in Mif during the specialization year.
Lastly, I would like also to mention that I am studying for the CFA level 1 for 2 years now and I will take it in August. In case I pass the exam, I will most probably emphasize it for my MiM application.

Languages : English\
Work Experience : 2 years of internship exp in consulting for a small firm. I have fulltime job offers from fortune 500 companies (I will start post graduation). I'm also working on a startup.
Target Schools (Mim): LBS, Imperial, LSE and Warwick.

I plan on applying in R1 for the 2022 intake. Should I retake the gmat and try to get a 700? Thanks.

Hey faizansari30,

Commencing your profile evaluation, your undergraduate GPA of 9.6 on 10 vouches your academic prowess and the specialisation of your undergraduate showcases your passion for the field of management.

Coming to your GMAT, an overall score of 680 is pretty competitive for the schools that you are targeting such as LBS, Imperial, LSE, and Warwick. Hence, a retake is not recommended in the present scenario. However, I would advise you to polish the other aspects of your profile in the next 5 months as the GMAT score only holds only 20% of a weightage on your chances of getting accepted whereas your profile holds a whopping 50%.

As for your work experience, your 2 years of professional exposure through the internship is pretty decent. However, what seems to be missing here is the brand name and value. That said, you need not fret, you can compensate for this by providing an apt reason as to why you chose these firms, how you have gone beyond the role, any initiatives you undertook, and any kind of impact created to showcase a competitive profile.

Since you haven’t provided much information regarding your extracurriculars, I would like to tell you that your extracurricular activities and your other endeavors hold equal importance as AdComs are looking for applicants with holistically developed profiles. Thus, it is essential to shed light on the endeavors you’ve taken up and the varied skills that you developed at the clubs and associations, fest, and events you managed or participated in during your undergrad. Furthermore, you can take up any certifications in the field of management or maybe some volunteering or CSR activities that would help you build your extracurricular front.

Out of the schools that you are targeting, LBS tends to favour applicants with considerable international exposure. Thus, make sure that you highlight any such experiences in your application as this could increase your chance of acceptance. As for your chance of getting accepted in the schools among the dream, competitive, and safe category is listed below.

Dream (around 50% chance of acceptance): LSE, LBS
Competitive (around 70% chance of acceptance): Imperial, Warwick

While you have a competitive profile, to boost your chances of getting admitted to these schools you would need to ensure that you have a very strong application (consisting of - Essays, LORs, and Resume) that highlights your strengths and overshadows your weaknesses in order to differentiate your profile. You need to showcase your journey, what makes you different from your peers, and how you are a great value addition to the school.

Thus, if you are looking to target the top B-schools and want to craft a winning application that would increase your chances by at least 3 times, you can check our comprehensive all-in-one solution that has helped thousands of applicants get into their dream schools worldwide.

Hi guys, this is my profile.

Male, Italian, 22 years old.
Currently pursuing a double degree in Business and Economics between an Italian and a Dutch University.
Italian GPA of 29.1/30 (1.2 into German grading system).
GMAT 640 (Q46V31) - To retake
600 hours internship at the entrepreneurship center of my University; developed a startup project, raised a few thousands of euros of funds and received different prizes.
+2 years of volunteering in a global service organization.
2 years of students representative activity.
Two semesters abroad in the Netherlands (because of the double degree).

I'll apply for the MMM - Mannheim Master in Management (English track).
How would you assess my chances?

The selection process considers:
- Max. 60 points for GPA (I'd get 56/60 with a 1.2 GPA);
- 22 points for semester abroad (I'd get 22/22);
- Max. 60 points for GMAT (3 points for any 10 points over 600; I'd get 9/60);
- Max 6 points for internship and relevant extracurricular activities (I'd get 2 or 3 points/6);

Total score: 89/148.
Do you think that's enough?

Thank you.

- Erasmus Rotterdam

An overview of my profile :

Do these schools look coherent with my profile or should I lower my ambitions?
Do you have any advice about schools that I should target?

Hello,

Would really appreciate your help!

I study Chemistry at the University of Warwick (top 10 UK). I aspire to become an analytics/digital strategy consultant or product manager. I took a year out before my last year of uni to gain work experience and have completed several internships:

- software engineering at Sky (2 months)
- business intelligence at Dyson (4 months)
- product management at e-commerce startup with huge impact (5 months)
- product management at Mastercard this summer (2.5 months)

I also have plenty of volunteering experiences, including
- social secretary of Languages society at university, organising weekly intercultural events
- web development instructor for Code First: Girls, award winning charity increasing nr of women in tech

I also have international experience as I have lived in 3 countries.

Grades - I got 56% and 58% in my first and second year respectively (high 2.2). I will go back to uni in autumn and the last year is worth 60% of the final grade, so I'm confident I will get a 2.1 overall, but I am wondering if this will be enough? Does the 2.1 have to be predicted or "on track for"?

Dream unis: LBS (MAM or MiM), HEC
Other unis: Imperial, INSEAD, ESSEC

Looking forward to hearing from you, thank you very much.

Hey eleman,

Beginning with your profile evaluation, the brand of your undergraduate college - ranking among the top 10 colleges in the UK, gives your profile a boost as schools tend to pick out applicants from the top schools of each country. However, your expected GPA of 2.1 will be on the lower end and so you will need to have a strong reason to back it up. You can use your voluntary participation in any of the extracurricular activities or research projects or maybe some health issue that you encountered during that period to build a strong alibi. However, with a GPA of 2.1 you can be targeting all schools you’ve shortlisted except for Imperial, as it is very GPA centric and would need at least an aggregate of 8.0 GPA.

Coming to your extracurriculars, you have a lot of varied roles in organizing cultural activities and volunteering for social causes, which are impressive value additions. Highlighting how these roles have helped you grow and influenced your life would help put together an impactful application.

Furthermore, the international exposure that you possess will differentiate you from the crowd and will definitely act in your favour as most schools are looking to add diversity to their cohort.

Moving forward, you have taken up numerous internships in diverse fields ranging from Software Engineering to Product Management. Furthermore, the presence of big brands in your CV is an added feather to your hat and will thus increase your chance of acceptance. Here, showcasing your journey and the learnings gathered through this experience would allow you to differentiate yourself and thereby gain an upper hand with equally competent profiles with extensive work experience hailing from equally good brands.

Since you’ve not given me any information about your GMAT score, I would recommend aiming for a minimum score of 700, while keeping in mind - the higher the better.

Moving on to evaluate your chance of acceptance in the schools you’ve shortlisted, in the dream category, i.e., schools like HEC, Insead, and LBS would stand around 50%. Since, ESSEC falls in the competitive category, your chance of acceptance would stand at 70%. On this note, in order to hedge your bets wisely, some other schools that you can be targeting in the competitive category are - ESCP, ESADE, FSFM, and IE.

All things considered, while you have a competitive profile, to increase your chances of getting admitted to these schools you would need to ensure that you have a very strong application (consisting of - Essays, LORs, and Resume) that highlights your strengths and overshadows your weaknesses in order to differentiate your profile. You need to showcase your journey, what makes you different from your peers, and how you are a great value addition to the school.

Therefore, in lieu of that, I would recommend you to check out our flagship ALL-IN-ONE service, which has helped 3500+ applicants get into their dream schools. You would also be entitled to end-to-end consulting combined with unlimited edits on your application documents. Not only this, you’d be consulted by a B-school alumnus who’d be helping you directly with your application process, right from finalizing the right schools and submitting an impactful application to the school to preparing you for the interview and bagging scholarships!

Hey everyone
I would like to know my chances at MIM , MIF or business Analytics

Nationality - Indian,21

Academics- always been in top 10% of my class
ICSE,10th -95%
HSC,12th-90%
Bachelors of management studies- 9.5/10(expected)

Gmat - 650
IELTS/TOEFL - not given yet but won’t be a problem

Work experience- have worked in my family business for past 3-4 years. It’s a gold jewellery manufacturing business and we are one of the top players in the India. My job is to handle one of the new factories with around 50 workers. Besides managing I also handle few direct sales from the factory.

I started an event management business with my cousins in 2018. We managed/organised a few events for Mahindra(car launch), aaj tak(news channel), Beauty pageant in Bali and few other events. Due to family reasons the company couldn’t be registered under my name but I can provide letterhead to tell so.

Re: MiM Profile Evaluations [Master Thread]: Post all Profiles Here [#permalink]
Hi, I am a 21 y/o(Indian), finished my undergrad and I want to apply for a Masters program(mainly Mim/MBA) soon. I graduated with just above average grades(not that great), and a pretty average college as well. However, I have done an internship for 2 months from a pretty prestigious mutual fund company, and I am currently working in a big company as well(for just about 5 months), in the field of supply chain finance. I want to write GMAT, by the end of this year. I really want a 700+, and I know how difficult that can be but I know I can do it, I think it's my only way of boosting an otherwise dull resume. With a good gmat score, knowing my current resume, do I stand any chance of getting into a good college? I just want to know if there's anything else I can do to help bolster my application.

Also, considering both my internship and job have been predominantly finance based, would an MIF be a better choice than an MiM? I do know quite a decent amount about finance, but I don't have any diploma/profession certificate specializing in finance. Any help would be very much appreciated! :)

Hello Everyone, I request the experts to evaluate and predict the chances I have for a MiM program in HEC Paris, ESSEC, Fuqua, Cornell, ESCP, Bocconi, basically any of the top 15 MiM programs.

23 years old, Indian National, Male.
I graduated in 2018 with Bachelor of Commerce Honors, with a 3.05 GPA out of 4 from a state university.

A GMAT score of 720, Q49 V40.

I currently have 3 Internship experiences,
1) Indian FMCG Company as a Finance Intern,
2) Research Associate at Kolkata Based Research Firm,
3) Teaching Faculty at Boddhi Tree Foundation (NGO).

I have worked for about a year in my father's company, where I managed Finance to logistics to compliances. Currently, I am working in the FMCG Company, where I interned, and volunteering in an NGO.

10th standard Score- 8.4 CGPA out of 10, 12th (Majored in Commerce)- 75%.

Hey nj97!

Hailing from a commerce background with a GPA of 3.05 out of 4, you should be able to easily target most of these colleges. Keeping in mind that Cornell is an Ivy League school, grades are quite important, thus to strengthen your profile, you'll need to back it up with other extracurricular activities you've participated in during your undergraduate studies. Moving forward, a GMAT score of 720 is excellent, and a Quants score of 49 will easily qualify you for an MSc in Finance.

Talking about your work experiences, you have pursued numerous internships, particularly in the field of finance. Additionally, you worked for a year at your father's company in finance-related roles, which will undoubtedly assist you during the admissions process. However, what seems to be lacking is the presence of big brands, but you can always back it up with the various projects on which you have worked and the experience gained from there. Stick to finance-related positions to further showcase a well-groomed profile.

Your volunteer work as a member of an NGO's teaching faculty demonstrates your commitment to education. This will be an added advantage for your profile as schools tend to favour students who are socially responsible. In order to groom your extracurricular front, you should include a variety of additional activities that you have participated in - whether it's a club, society, sport, or competition, you should take advantage of this opportunity to showcase the various abilities and accomplishments you've accumulated over the years.

Based on the information you've provided, here's a breakdown of the schools you're targeting.

HEC, Duke Fuqua, Cornell will fall under the dream category with 50% chances of admission, while ESSEC, ESCP, Bocconi can be clubbed under the competitive category with 70% chances of conversion

Hello everyone,

I would appreciate it if you could evaluate my profile (if thats still possible)

Preferred program: Innovation & Entrepreneurship at ESADE
Other options: International Management at IE/NOVA/ESCP/BOCCONI/CBS

Male, German, 24 years old

Early high school in Germany, last three years at the German School in Lisbon
2 student exchanges in France
3 months of work and travel in the US

BA in Hospitality Management at Hotelschool The Hague in the Netherlands (#1 in the Netherlands, Top 5 worldwide)
GPA: 7.38 out of 10
Dissertation: 9/10 (very high for my university)
Internships (part of study program): 6 month F&B internship at Sheraton on Tenerife, Spain / 7 month internship at digital consulting scale up for hospitality companies in Berlin, Germany

Graduated March, 2020
Workexp. 1: Worked 8 months as a freelancer in research and translation - awarded with certificate for quality of work and customer satisfaction (Top 10% of all freelancers)
Workexp. 2: Responsible for pilot project for the European expansion of FMGC Business Analytics Scale Up in Amsterdam

Languages:

Fluent: German, English, Portuguese, Dutch
Used to be fluent (could "relearn" within 2 months if necessary): French and Spanish

Extra curricular activities:

- Heavily involved in Student Association: Academic assistance, integration of new students, gala committee
- Purchasing Manager of the student bar
- Volunteer at recruitment office: Open days, selection days

GMAT: 680 (Q46/38V)
A bit disappointing because I scored a 710 6 times in a row for my final practice exams, but I guess nervousness made a difference

I know that there are several weaknesses in my profile, but everything combined I think I have several strong points as well.
I lack the "big name" factor regarding my work experience, but not sure how relevant that is for an innovation master?

Hi maxost96,

As the first step towards your profile evaluation, I would like to point out that you have got a pretty well-groomed profile with room for further development. First and foremost, your 7.38 GPA is fairly good and falls under the average front. But the most striking feature of your academic profile is your undergraduate academic background in hospitality management which adds a unique and fresh perspective to the programs you are applying to.

Coming to your work experience, you have a decent amount of professional experience through your internship programs as well as freelancing gigs. Having said that, the best part about your profile is that you have been part of some of the most diverse industries such as hospitality and FMCG. As a result, your profile stands out from the rest of the applicant pool which will eventually work in your favour. Regarding your concerns about the lack of big brand names under your work profile, you need not fret over it since your unique academic and professional background would easily compensate for the same. However, to showcase your professional expertise to the fullest, you can highlight the kind of projects you worked on, the impacts you created and the major takeaways to stand at par with the competition you face.

Your extracurriculars further vouches for the varied skills you have got under your belt. Looking at the details you have provided about your extracurriculars, you have been consistently upgrading yourself by going above and beyond in your endeavours. From your involvement in student association and volunteering work at the recruitment office to managerial duties in the student bar, you have quite a decent amount of experience on these fronts. Moreover, through these endeavours, you can highlight your leadership, management, mentorship and teamwork skills which are some of the traits these B-schools are constantly on the lookout for. In addition to this, as a recommendation, you can also work in an NGO to highlight your social skills or undertake certain certifications to showcase your constant momentum in the quest for knowledge and learnings.

Another interesting addition to your profile is your international experience in the form of two exchange programs in France and 3-month work and travel to the US which goes on to showcase your broadened perspective and adaptability quotient, traits held in high regard by the top b-schools.

Now talking about your concerns regarding your GMAT score of 680, you need not worry much since it is a good enough score with respect to the programs and schools you are applying for. Speaking of the schools you are targeting, i.e, IE, Bocconi, ESADE, NOVA, CBS, you stand a 70% chance of getting in. Additionally, you could also consider some dream category schools (where your chances of acceptance are 50%) such as LBS, DUKE, INSEAD.

You can also boost your chances of acceptance by drawing attention to the stronger aspects of your profile which can be achieved through your application. Your application is basically what can differentiate you by highlighting your strengths and overshadowing your weaknesses. You also need to showcase your journey and how you are a great value addition to the school. Additionally, it also carries a 30% impact on your admission prospects which is why I would urge you to pay more attention to the same.

That said, if you are contemplating how to draft an impactful application, you can check out our All-in-one service which is a complete end-to-end consulting process aimed at providing personalised application suggestions, unlimited edits, and expert consultants who would constantly be there to help you throughout your application journey!
