Re: Stanford GSB: Class of 2017 - Calling All Applicants! [#permalink]
I'm starting to feel impatient, despite the deadline still being a few days away. I want to know when they'll start sending out interview invitations. At least with Harvard, I have dates to look forward to/dread.

Try not to go too crazy! Last year I applied to only Stanford and Berkeley (my two dream schools), knowing that if I didn't get in I'd apply again this year and add a few other schools to my list. I didn't get in, so here I am again.

Last year I was incredibly stressed by the process - not by the application process, but by the waiting for an answer, hoping for an interview, etc. I'm not normally a high-stress person, so I was surprised by how much it affected me. I guess it's because we normally have a bit more control over the things we care about, and in this process, once the application is submitted, we literally have no control over whether or not we're invited to interview.

This year, I'm determined to stay sane and remind myself that there's no use in checking the blog every 10 minutes to see who was invited/accepted or stressing over things I have no control over. Also, I plan to do a lot more yoga!

Probably way more than you needed or wanted to know about me, but I thought I'd throw this out there in case it helps someone stay in perspective.

That said, I still have one more essay to write...lol!

Good luck, everyone!

Go grab a beer or a glass of wine. Kick your feet up and chillax. It's out of our control now. Whatever happens, happens 8-)

I really wish we couldn't unsubmit the application. It's just sitting there tempting me to look at it over and over again... I actually did unsubmit it immediately after I submitted, and then submitted it again, just to test it.

My two essays have a word count of 900, combined.

I feel I've done a fair job of answering the Why's in both the questions.

What is everybody's opinion on not utilizing the 1100 word limit?

It is a $275 risk. :-D I am concerned if they will charge app fee again once I re-submit :D

I read a successful essay to HSW with only 300 words before. One of the most beautiful crafts I have seen. I think 1100 limit is just like a budget from your boss. As long as you get the job done and don't exceed it, it will be fine.

Thanks for sharing that.

As a great Football Manager once said- Everyone thinks they have the prettiest wife at home, so maybe my rose tinted glasses are making me think I've done well.
I've asked my friends to let me know if I've done a fair job . Else I can add the missing ingredients.

Explain yourself in 20 words or fewer. How did you guys approach this question?

I replied with a few adjectives and a few defining characteristics.

How are you planning to answer?

I recommend the use of word magnets. Shuffle them around randomly blindfolded or let someone else put a sentence together for you... type it out and hit submit.

I suppose Adcom gives brownie points for (attempted) humor, so if nothing we have that

I am unsure. Last time they have asked to reply with adjectives, this time I see that they changed it to "words". So are they expecting a line to sell yourself? I feel uncomfortable to talk about myself. I prefer talking about my ambitions.

... so my application indicates this error... it's in the "test scores" section and it says "Attended to (mm/yyyy) - Date should be in the format mm/yyyy"

but I swear I can't find it! On the test scores page there's also nothing marked in red.

Is this a first test?
