Well, I am just going to come right out and say it. I have visited both SOM and Columbia and spoken to a lot of students and alumni of each: I think SOM jumping ahead in the rankings is BS. Not that US News has final say, but #10 is awfully close to being out of the top ten. It could be worse -- I feel bad for the incoming class at Stern.

Not that I know of. But roughly 50% of those who apply for need based aid get it.

Yup i read the same info / stats.
BTW, for anyone interested in applying need-based aid, the deadline is Mar 1st (tmr). :-D

Does getting a merit fellowship impact the amount of need-based scholarship one would get? I just realized that the CBS financial aid application form doesn't even ask for the merit fellowship amount (if any), so wondering if the two things are independent of each other? Does anyone here know of instances people getting both a merit fellowship and a need-based scholarship? Thanks in advance!

I received my financial aid package yesterday. Got both a merit fellowship (which I was already told of during my acceptance call) and a need-based scholarship. Pretty generous of the school and the scholarships are definitely much appreciated. Just worried because my merit fellowship is not renewable for year 2. =\

Thanks. twa! I also heard back yesterday and the school generously offered a small scholarship in addition to the merit award earlier. I'm sure you will figure something out. I read somewhere that second years are also eligible for merit awards if one is in the top 10% of the class.

Do either of you mind sharing the range of the merit scholarship and the fin aid scholarship?

Thanks!

Hi, congrats! :)

Is your merit award offered to you during the acceptance call, or a while after that (est. when)?

Still haven't heard much about the merit fellowship offers yet. Been anxiously waiting for quite a few months now. :)

Does anyone else care to share a little light on this topic as well? Thanks!
