Is this the first phrase Most people would like to believe that they are being selfless when they assist others, if so I am finding it hard convincing myself this is the conclusion.

I believe D is the answer. Yhe first phrase explains the meaning behind altruism and the seconfd is a conclusion drawn by the author stating that the actions solely benefit themselves

Answer: B. This is a structure question. Find the conclusion and the premise:

Premise: People who perform so-called altruistic acts are really satisfying their personal need for attention or glory.

Conclusion: There is no such thing as pure altruism. Thus, the first statement is the conclusion and the second is the premise, or justification, as choice B states.

I believe warrior guy is correct. I believe you need to bold the entire sentence and not just one word.
The way its currently bolded doesn't make it clear what the phrases are.

In such ques where you have to find which phrase is the conclusion and which phrase is the premise, always use the contextual ques "X hence Y", where X is the Premise and Y is the Conclusion.

So ask the ques: There is no such thing as pure altruism, hence Most people would like to believe that they are being selfless when they assist others, but in actuality, their actions are designed solely to benefit themselves

OR

Most people would like to believe that they are being selfless when they assist others, but in actuality, their actions are designed solely to benefit themselves, hence There is no such thing as pure altruism.
