Hello, I would just like to add my ESR. I scored a 780 overall with a 51Q and 48V. I had not originally planned on ordering it considering my score, but felt it may be useful data for those who are wanting to know what it takes to receive a high score. Plus, I was quite curious!

Only 1 question wrong in verbal and V48 for only 1 wrong and that too the difficulty is off the charts(literally ), I thought at least 790 would be the result of this.

what do you guys think?

Yes, that's correct--we have learned from his ESR that only 1 wrong on Verbal can drop you down to 48/51. I think that the only way to score a 790 is to get a 51/51 (100% correct) on Verbal, because a perfect 51 on Verbal is much less common than is a perfect 51 on Quant. Also, let's congratulate lin11 on being only 1 question away from a perfect 800! Amazing job.

Oh, so you mean that Q51 V48, Q51 V49, Q51 V50 will be 780, Q50V51 will be 790 and Q51V51 will be 800?
But also he did only 1 mistake in the last set and that too the difficulty was very high, I don't understand why he didn't get V49, V50.
Is that because the algorithm is not so strong when the score distribution is very small in numbers. ( Because it doesn't have that much data at this high range to get the score) ?

Luckily, the snapshot's for qaunt provided here gives a big insight here for the first 10 questions:

HKD1710 (Q45) - 57 57 71 100

mvictor (Q49) --- 71 57 71 100

We should go for more analytics with more data :)

I think the last set of questions are also as important as the first half. Check out my ESR Report, I am at the same level as the scores you have given but my last of answers are wrong and that screwed up my complete score.I got only a Q44

Hi,

Can someone help me with my ESR report? - Test date October 12, 2017. Q 48 and V 35.

Background:
Have given GMAT thrice already - 1st - 650, 2nd - 650 and 3rd - 620 (Feb - 2017) [ had not done OG for any of these exams]

Started studying again in August for the October 2017 exam (on and off) and referred to the following material:
1) OG - 2017
2) Official GMAT Quant and Verbal review - 2017
3) GMAT club Math book
4) Aristotle for SC

Veritas Mock 1 - 680
Veritas Mock 2 - 690
Official GMAT Mock 1 - 710
Official GMAT Mock 2 - 690
Official GMAT Mock 3 - 710
Official GMAT Mock 4 - 730

I am thinking of buying an online course for CR and SC (I feel these are my weak areas). Any suggestions?

Inputs for retaking the GMAT on 29 October 2017 will be very helpful. Target score is 720+. Thank you.

Regards,
Anks

As far as I can tell, a score of 49/51 on Verbal is currently impossible, and a score of V50 is what you might have (incorrectly!) earned with 100% of questions correct, but (most likely) 1 or more experimental questions correct. According to all the ESRs I've seen so far, 0 wrong (out of the 30 counted questions) is a 51/51 and 1 wrong is a 48/51.

Here are my ESRs

ESR #1 (730: 49/41, RC 44, CR 41, SC 39)

++++

ESR #2 (700 49/36, RC 29(!), CR 41, SC 39)

I saw in an older post that no one had gotten an RC between 42-44, so here is one (maybe someone else did too in between when that was posted and now).

So can we conclude that in verbal if you ruin your one section very badly, You wont be getting tough question in other?
For example if i ruined RC in 1st slot and did all RC question wrong. The algorithm wont even give me some hard ones in CR in the next?

My 4th attempt...and still can't get my target score. (see a couple posts above)

When I was taking the exam I felt that SC was really hard (all the sentences seemed incredible strange), but the CR and RC to be dead simple. The passages were short and had clear answers.

1) Does anyone know what my verbal score would have been if I gotten closer to a 39/40 on SC but kept a 51/51 on RC and CR?
2) I got the first 14 questions on quant correct and 20/21 and still only got a 49... how does one break a 50?
3) Does anyone have any insight why the test did not give me harder quant problems? You would have thought getting so many correct in a row would have given me harder questions, but the test stayed pretty easy.

Help someone, the practice tests I took on GMATPrep2 were 710 Q 44 V41 (Dec 23) and GMATPrep1 690 Q47 V37 (Nov) I scored Q41-47 on every practice test. Scored 710 Q44 on MGMAT and in the exam Scored a 660 Q39 V41. I was running out of time on Quant for the last 10 or so questions. I thought it was time but my ESR seems to indicate there was a problem from the beginning. I would like feedback to know what I can do to get a Q44+ on the real exam!

I'm a professional GMAT tutor who has taken the GMAT 5 times, and I've written a couple of G-Day debriefs detailing my experiences from each exam in both Quant and Verbal (with ESRs from the last 4 exams attached).

Hope you find them helpful!

UPDATE, 4/16/18: GMAC slightly modified the format of its ESRs along with the new, shorter test. Anyone who has a past ESR on file for a test during the last 5 years can re-download his/her ESR in the new format.

The changes were minor: notice the pink hue and the new x-axis on the Percent Correct / Average Difficulty charts, which no longer indicates the question numbers.

See an example below (and the full file for download).

Hi everyone, I wanted to contribute my ESR as one of the less common verbal/quant splits. I scored a 770 on my first attempt with a V51 and Q47. I spent the bulk of my time prepping Quant so actually don't have many tips for verbal. I will say I took 4 or so practice LSATs last year and read the newspaper every day. I only received a perfect verbal score once on a practice test, so was ecstatic with this result. I likely missed an experimental question or two, luckily.

During the exam I finished Verbal with extra time to spare, which I used to relax before taking on Quant. I made a few careless mistakes in Quant which kept me from the 48-49 range I was scoring in my practice tests. About 10 questions in I began spending <1 minute on problems with multiple variables where the solution couldn't be found by testing each of the answer choices. For PS, looking at patterns in the answer choices (are they all to the 5th power? is only one a difference of two squares?) helped me eliminate choices and guess between 1 or 2 somewhat effectively. I was able to get a 47 this way without using much algebra, so would suggest considering this approach for students who are much stronger with Verbal and have difficulty thinking algebraically quickly in the way the OG presents their solutions.

It's not everyday that we see a 760+ on here, let alone a perfect Verbal score! Congratulations on a job done very well, and thank you for sharing the results with us! Out of curiosity, what is your academic background? Have you always been an avid reader since college?
