Hi anantap,
Thanks for writing in and congratulations on your ambition for being so focused on an MBA right out of college.
While schools on the whole are being more open to accepting students right out of college, this is still the exception and not the rule. And your GMAT is below median for these schools, so there will be some questions as to your academic ability for MBA-level coursework. While you do some have some great experience, my concern is you are going to be competing against people who have similar experience, plus 3-4 years work experience, plus higher GMAT scores.
My gut reaction is to encourage you to work for two years and retake the test; I think you’ll find your application is a lot more competitive at that stage, assuming you get that score up near the 700-range.
Best of luck,
Brian
Hi Brian,
Thanks a lot for the response. It sure helps. But there are a few more questions here, if you can clear them off for me, it would be of great help.
1. I was planning to take a deffered admission. Keeping that in mind, I thought that, since I have time till January, and since I am in the 640 score range, if I prepare some more and give the exam again in December I am confident of increasing the score to a 720+. Do you think, applying at that stage will be helpful?
2. Also, I will be graduating this December. Does that mean I am ineligible to apply as a college senior in Jan? (For programs like Yale silver scholar?) I will not be getting my degree till Feb though.
Thanks once again for taking time to respond.
I see that your number is listed in the response, will it be OK if I give you a call sometime this week in order to talk further about this?
Sincerely,
Ananta.
