Q49 after getting 4 incorrect in GMAT prep test 4

Thank you for your post. First of all let me begin by congratulating you on scoring so well in your prep exams.

GMAT scoring Algorithm is quite complicated to fully comprehend. However I had faced a very similar situation as yours. I had scored Q50 with 10 incorrect question and Q49 with just 5. One of the explanations can be the level of difficulty of your incorrect answers, i.e if I answer a 500-600 level question incorrect I will loose more points than if I answer say a 700+ level question incorrectly. Further on your actual GMAT you are likely to face around 6-7 experimental questions. These questions do not count towards your final score and the fact that you answer them correctly or incorrectly has no bearing on your results. This is one of the most important reasons why you may see your scores fluctuating between your practice tests. The fact that you scored Q49 with just 4 incorrect can be because of the aforementioned reasons, though you seem well on your way to a phenomenal GMAT score. Also note that answering most if not all first 10 is of vital importance and try not to answer too many incorrect questions in a row.
