I took test today Exam Pack 1 Test No 4 and scored 760 with (Q49 V 44) but I am confused with low score in Quant. Earlier in GMAT default exam pack Test 1, I scored Q50 with 8 incorrect and in Exam Pack 1 Test No 3 scored 49 with 10 Incorrect.
Can you please help me explain why i got score of Q49 even though number of incorrect are only 4? Detailed analysis of incorrect is as below. Further is it possible that if I had got let's say 7-8 incorrect in Quant I would have ended up at Q47.

Hi Rohan,
Thank you for your post. First of all let me begin by congratulating you on scoring so well in your prep exams.
GMAT scoring Algorithm is quite complicated to fully comprehend. However I had faced a very similar situation as yours. I had scored Q50 with 10 incorrect question and Q49 with just 5. One of the explanations can be the level of difficulty of your incorrect answers, i.e if I answer a 500-600 level question incorrect I will loose more points than if I answer say a 700+ level question incorrectly. Further on your actual GMAT you are likely to face around 6-7 experimental questions. These questions do not count towards your final score and the fact that you answer them correctly or incorrectly has no bearing on your results. This is one of the most important reasons why you may see your scores fluctuating between your practice tests. The fact that you scored Q49 with just 4 incorrect can be because of the aforementioned reasons, though you seem well on your way to a phenomenal GMAT score. Also note that answering most if not all first 10 is of vital importance and try not to answer too many incorrect questions in a row. Congrats on the great score in the prep test.
Actually it is difficult to determine the scores as the Gmat algorithm is quite difficult. It depends more on the level of questions you got wrong, rather than the number of questions wrong. For example, if you are doing well and get a 500 level question wrong you will be penalized more than if you get a 700 level question wrong. It also depends on the sequence in which you got the questions right or wrong. For example, if you get 1 question wrong in 5 questions, you will be penalized less than if you get continuous 3-4 questions wrong. It means that if your wrong answers are spread out in the test, it will harm you less than if they are continuous.
In my opinion you are on your way to get a great Gmat score.
