Should I be worried about my most recent Q score on GMATPrep?

Hello all - I've been studying for the GMAT for about three weeks and have taken four GMATPrep tests, which have been frustratingly inconsistent (at least Quant-wise). I’ve gotten a 750 (47V/47Q), 720 (44V/46Q), 760 (46V/48Q) and 720 (48V/42Q-!!) on the tests I’ve taken thus far. I’m aiming for 750+. I honestly have felt a bit like I’ve been flying by the seat of my pants as I’ve been taking these tests (though I’ve been taking them strictly under testing conditions, timed, no calculator/study materials etc.), and yet when I go back to review I’ve only gotten one question right out of all four tests that was purely out of luck. I also seem to be getting roughly the same number of questions correct (25/37, 27/37, 26/37, 27/37 respectively for Quant and 37/41, 36/41, and 37/41 and 40/41 - how did this get only a 48? - respectively for Verbal) each time.

I want to take the test in two weeks time . . . superscoring all of my GMAT scores (48Q/48V) would result in about a 770-780, so I think I have the potential to do well, but relying on a 48V is unreasonable, especially when just one wrong answer can apparently bump you down three points on that section.

Does anyone have any advice on what I can do to make sure I can assure myself of a high Quant score? Should I treat the one 42Q score as an outlier (there were two incorrect answers that I reviewed that were purely stupid, reading error mistakes which I will of course try to be more vigilant about)? I did receive 44Q on the one MGMAT test that I took, which I've been told is tougher on Quant. Thanks very much for any help on this.

I wouldn't be too worried about the one low quant. Just a couple of pointers though. I think you need to be a bit more confident about your ability.
The low score despite getting similar number of correct answers is probably because you got some consecutive questions incorrect or quite a few incorrect among the first 10 questions. So just try to ensure you don't guess more than 1 on a trot and secondly if needed allocate maybe 20 seconds more per question among the first 10 to be extra sure.

IMO, its makes sense to try and understand what caused the drop in the score.

Did you finish the test or could not complete the quant section, because from what
I have heard, you lose about 4-5 points for not completing the test.
If you did finish the test, I would recommend you to understand what caused the drop?

If it was a specific topic, you could revisit the basics and do some specific practice.
Then take a test again and see if you are able to get rid of the mistakes in that topic.

Have you tired gmatclub quant tests? Believe me those tests are awesome.

Hello kayjaysay - Your moc scores are not bad! Having said that improving the score from 48 to 51 can a tough job. I would say start with error anaylsis.
