On Christmas Eve, Santa began wrapping presents at 1:00 p.m. and finished at 11:00 p.m. Did he wrap more than 120 presents during that period?

(1) During that period, Santa was interrupted three times by visits from reindeer needing attention.
(2) Santa's average rate while he was wrapping was 15 presents per hour.

total time taken to wrap gifts = 10hrs

1) we don't know anything about the speed by which Santa is wrapping gift hence INSUFFICIENT.

2) by the language it is clear that the statement is giving the average speed of gift wrapping by Santa while he is Wrapping gift not overall average speed during the whole 10 hrs duration, hence INSUFFICIENT

Combining stmt 1 and stmt 2 we know the no of breaks but we still don't know the duration during which Santa was interrupted, Hence INSUFFICIENT

Correct answer E

The answer is E - we do not have sufficient info to answer the question.
Santa wrapped from 1PM-11PM, or 10 hours

Statement 1 tells us he was interrupted 3 times, which gives us no info as to how fast he wrapped/how many presents he could get through

Statement 2 tells us he wrapped 15 presents an hour while he was wrapping (this part is key). This means he wrapped a maximum of 10 hours x 15 presents per hour = 150 presents, which is well over our 120 number.

However, it asks while he was wrapping. It is possible he took some breaks. Indeed, statement 1 tells us he stopped 3 times, but the duration of these stops is unknown and that is what makes us unable to give an answer. If each stop was 15 seconds, say Santa was answering a quick question from a reindeer, he would still be above 120. Say there was a big problem and each stop was an hour long, we would be under our 120 number (15 x 7 < 120).

stat - 1 : not sufficient. as rate of wrapping is not given .
stat - 2 sufficient . 1pm to 11pm .
that is 10 hours
rate = 15 per hour
total gifts wrapped = 15*10 = 150 > 120 hence yes . and sufficient

Pre-think: Santa spent a total of 10 hours on Christmas Eve wrapping presents.

(1) Only
Evidently insufficient

(2) Only
So the total presents = 15 * 10 = 150
Answer "Yes" to the question.
Sufficient.

The answer is thus (B).

Total hours is 10hrs
(1) During that period, Santa was interrupted three times by visits from reindeer needing attention.
(2) Santa's average rate while he was wrapping was 15 presents per hour.

A) We can not determine with just information 1
B) We know Santa started at 1PM and completed at 11 PM be we do not have information as to how long he was working - Incorrect
C) With both 1 and 2 we don't know how long he worked. -Incorrect.
D) Incorrect
E) We can not determine with both information hence this is right option. As we know Santa was interrupted 3 times we do not have infomation on how long he was not working. His actually effort might be 5 hours then he would have wrapped 5*15= 75 <120 if his effort was 9 then he would have wrapped 9*15=135>120

So E is the answer.

1. not sufficient, as disturbance doesn't give us any idea about how many present we packed.
2. Sufficient.
1 hour - 15 presents
1pm to 11pm =. 10 hours i.e. 15*10 = 150 present which is more than 120
Hence 2 is sufficient

Question stem:
- Santa works 10 hours. Did he wrap more than 120 presents?
- We can establish that: Total number of presents = 10 (hours) * Number of present per hour

(1) No. this does not tell us anything.
So A, D are out

(2) Oh hey, it tells us that he wraps 15 presents per hour (on average). If we replace the number in the question stem, we then have:
10 (hours) * 15 = 150

It does tell us the answer. So B it is.

(1) During that period, Santa was interrupted three times by visits from reindeer needing attention.
(2) Santa's average rate while he was wrapping was 15 presents per hour.

Solution:
Total time taken by Santa to wrap presents from 1pm to 11pm= 10 hours

Statement 1:
This statement doesn't give any information about the quantity of presents wrapped by Santa during the given time period while he was interrupted 3 times.

Hence this statement is NOT SUFFICIENT.

Statement 2:
Santa's average rate of wrapping presents = 15 presents/hour
This means he wrapped a total of 15 * 10 presents in 10 hours i.e. 150 presents
which is > 120 presents.

Hence he wrapped more than 120 presents in the given time period per this statement.
Statement 2 is SUFFICIENT .

We are asked if more than 120 presents in a ten-hour period.
S1: The statement does not provide any relevant information to answer the question. Insufficient.
S2: This information is relevant and enough. If average hourly rate is 15 presents, then 10*15=150>120. So, yes more than 120 presents were wrapped during that period.

(1) no matter how many times interrupted
Rate must be known
as no of hours taken to wrap is 11hrs

(2) Rate is known at 15 presents/hrs
thus no. of wrapped presents = 15 *11 (rate*time)
which is 165
Yes 165 presents wrapped
Sufficient

Statement: from 1:00pm to 11:00pm gives 10 hours for gift wrapping

Qstn: >120 presents?

Statement 1: we are given that Santa was interrupted 3 times, this does not give us any information on how many gifts could be wrapped in 1 hr. So not sufficient

Statement 2: given that Santa wrapped 15 presents/hr, 10 hours equates 150 presents. But, notice the language, while he was wrapping, what was happening the other times? Maybe Santa was watching TV? So not sufficient

Statement 1&2 still does not sufficient since we do not know how long the interruptions were, so answer E.

we need to know his rate.

statement (1) : During that period, Santa was interrupted three times by visits from reindeer needing attention. this tells us nothing about his rate. Insufficient

statement (2) : Santa's average rate while he was wrapping was 15 presents per hour. 15*10=150>120. Sufficient

Not sufficient on its own as we have no idea on the number of presents he made

(2) Santa's average rate while he was wrapping was 15 presents per hour.
It says 'while he was wrapping'. No information is given for when all he was wrapping. If he wrapped for 3 hours cumulatively then 15*3= 45 presents< 120
But if he wrapped for all 10 hours then 15*10=150
Not sufficient

Combined
We dont know for how long he was interrupted so we cannot say for sure how many presents he made
Not sufficient

IMO, the answer is B.
Statement 1:
- No information about wrapping speed rate. => Not sufficient
Statement 2:
- It mentions about " average rate ", so even if we get affected by the condition of statement 1, the interrupted times are already counted into the average rate that means if there were not the interruptions, the average rate would be faster than current given rate. => Sufficient

(1) "During that period, Santa was interrupted three times by visits from reindeer needing attention." This statement gives us information about interruptions, not the number of presents Santa wrapped. We can not determine whether he wrapped more than 120 presents. Statement (1) is not sufficient. A and D are out.

(2) "Santa's average rate while he was wrapping was 15 presents per hour." This statement gives us the rate at which Santa was wrapping presents, which is 15 presents per hour. To find out if he wrapped more than 120 presents, we can calculate the total number of presents wrapped in the 10-hour period: Total Presents = 15*10=150 presents. Statement (2) is sufficient.

The answer is B.
