Hi, waiting a year might increase your chances; but it might not – it depends on how you would use that year, and what accomplishments you would have that you currently don’t. If you are rejected this year, you can re-apply the following year; it would be wise to do some research to make sure that the school is friendly to reapplicants. Most are, some aren’t.

I recommend working with a reputable consulting company to help you strategize, position yourself, choose the schools wisely, etc.

Good luck!!

Apologies for troubling you again but i have a specific query now =>(regarding my debrief - ask-aringo-if-your-gmat-is-or-might-be-below-109261-720.html)
Is my profile good enough for notre dame ?
and additionally if not should i skip applying this year in R2 and apply in early round next year so that my work ex will be more than 2 years and 4 months?
i want to get into notre dame or georgetown..!
Actually Notre dame is my top priority.

Can you please shed some light on the notre dame 2 year mba/ms programme
will it be considered a stem programme?
and if i do apply this year and dont get in - then being a reapplicant next year would it demean my chances?
and what can i do to improve next year from notredame point of view
I want notre dame pretty badly
and thank you once again for the wonderful insights above

Hi Aringo,

It will be great if you can review my profile, as my education background is slightly unique.

Gender: Male
Nationality: Malaysian
Current location: Vietnam (on secondment)
Age: 26 years old (27 years old in Sep 2017)

GMAT: I will be sitting for the exam in early September 2016; aiming for 700

Target schools (Sept 2017 intake): 1 year MBA in Oxford Said Business School or Cambridge Judge Business School or Imperial College Business School (I am applying for R3 in January 2017). Open to any suggestions for US based schools aswell

Why MBA: Career progression in financial services industry. Moving from Investment Banking in ASEAN to SME development either in a financial services firm or Crowdfunding / P2P operators; To dive into innovative financing / alternative financing to grow and support SMEs in ASEAN

Working Experience (Total @ 5 years):
1) Top 5 Banks in ASEAN (present): 2 year rotational leadership program in Investment Banking Division; Rotations in Corporate Finance department, Assistant to Deputy CEO of the Investment Bank and secondment to Vietnam to get a taste of SME development)

2) Big 4 audit firm (1.5 years): Specialising in the audit of financial services companies

3) Family-owned hotel business (SME) (2 years): Business development (Note: Before heading to university to pursue my tertiary education)

Education (unique)
Pursued a slightly different educational pathway, that lead me to an offer to pursue a top UK based Professional Accounting Qualification (similar to CPA in USA) under a scholarship in South East Asia without the need to having an undergraduate degree. Average score @ 70% for all papers.

I was part of the pioneer batch in ASEAN to complete the professional accounting program in 6 years, accumulating 3 years of working experience and 3 years of full time classroom training in one of the leading university in my country. My country lacks 60,000 accountants, and this is one of the programs that was meant to fill the gap to develop my country in the next 5 years.

Completed CFA level 1 & qualified Chartered Accountant in 2015

Extra-curricular activities
Quite a number of volunteering activities (President of Omega Leo Club, math teacher in an orphanage house) all the way to being a Project Director for a national level CEO Speaker Series / networking sessions and Project director for a Fintech community + organized a regional fintech competition in 2015. Enjoy traveling around South East Asia. Currently mentoring a team of social entrepreneurs under a Leadership Academy to build a P2P platform.

Questions

1) As I am professionally qualified as a Chartered Accountant, am I eligible to apply for MBA in my targeted school to facilitate my career progression in the Financial Services industry?

2) Is my education background the biggest hurdle for me to pursue MBA? If yes, what can I do about it? (Note: Spending another 4 years to get an undergraduate degree is definitely not an option)

3) Is there anything else that I can do to improve my profile?

I'd appreciate any feedback or comments on my MBA application or if you can share any successful stories by applicants with similar educational background as me.

Looking forward to hear from you.

Cheers.

Hi, and sorry for my delayed answer!

First of all, let me start by pointing out that you have a fantastic profile! Big 4 + biggest bank + family business + Vietnam is all very good!
Regarding school selection: If you are aiming for 1 year programs, I would also consider Cornell 1Y MBA and based on your GMAT Emory / Kellogg (700+ Kellogg, 700- Emory…)
Regarding your undergraduate degree – you need to explain it in advance to the schools and get a written consent that they agree to you applying.
This should not be a problem for most schools if you explain it in the right way but I would encourage you to do it before you start the application process to be on the safe side.

As you have a fantastic profile, I forwarded it to our CEO, Ms. Chaya Pomeranz and she suggested you speak to her directly and she will explain how ARINGO can assist you with the rest of the application process. Naturally, your GMAT is the first step in the way, so you might want to currently focus on that and only then reach out to her… You can send her a direct email on ChayaP@ARINGO.com (please send your CV and the explanation you provided here and any other relevant info should you decide to do so!)

Good luck!

Notre Dame is generally not against re-applicants, so you could apply again, should you not get in the first time. However, if that should happen, you will need to explain how your profile has improved since the last time you applied. So be prepared to do that, and keep in mind that that would mean more work on the application at that point.
As for GMAT ranges, a 700 score as you mentioned as your target would definitely help, see some stats regarding GMAT scores here:
https://poetsandquants.com/2015/11/04/me ... s-of-2017/
So as you can see the range is between 620 and 740.

Notre Dame is also a school that welcomes applicants from diverse backgrounds, so it might very well be a good fit for you.

However, keep in mind that even if you apply later, your work experience will be on the low side, so you would need to work hard on telling your story so far and differentiating yourself in positive ways in the essays.
ARINGO has worked with a lot of applicants with backgrounds similar to yours in the past, so if I may say so myself, we might be able to help you quite a bit with the essays when the time comes. Feel free to be in touch should that be of interest and: good luck!

Hi and thank you for your question!

Due to the transition you want to make and based on the fact that there are scholarships available I would suggest the following schools: NYU, Berkeley-Haas, Columbia, Tepper and Kellogg, but keep in mind that your GMAT score is on the low side for all of these so you need really strong essays in order to have a chance of admission.

I should also add that what you are interested in is covered by a lot of other programs as well, so what I have listed is just a suggestion, mainly featuring top schools as I assumed that’s what you are interested in. But if I am wrong and you would consider lower-tier schools as well, there are many great choices among them too.

Your profile looks promising based on what you have told me but of course many strong candidates go after scholarships so it is hard for me to assess your chances based on what you told me already alone. But you are more than welcome to email our CEO Chaya at ChayaP@ARINGO.com if you are interested in finding out more about your scholarship chances and what you can do in order to improve your chances of getting a scholarship if you want.

I hope that helps and good luck!

About Aringo:

ARINGO's roots were planted when the founder, Gil Levi, was accepted at Harvard, Wharton and INSEAD with a GMAT score of 650.
Gil received a full, merit-based scholarship at Wharton upon admission and later became a member of the Wharton Admission Committee. He formed ARINGO's methodology on the basis of the essay-writing tools that he originally developed as an applicant.

The results followed: ARINGO’s clients were accepted at Harvard (MBA) with GMAT scores of 580, 660 and 670; at Wharton with GMAT scores of 640, 660 and 670; at Duke with GMAT scores of 600 and 640; at INSEAD with GMAT scores of 630, 640 and 650; at MIT with GMAT scores of 660 and 680; at LBS with GMAT scores of 630, 650 and 660; at Kellogg with GMAT scores of 640 and 680, and many more…

Since its inception, ARINGO has invested heavily in research (over 3,000 man hours and counting…). Following this heavy investment in research, ARINGO clients have access to ARINGO’s Admission Driver System for application content planning, its Tracker System for tracking document versions, and the Planner System for task scheduling.

ARINGO employs a round table strategy, with each consultant collecting expert opinions at the critical decision points throughout the application process. We also conduct internal reviews of candidates' materials by additional consultants (and at no additional cost) in order to provide a fresh perspective and make sure each of our client's materials are at their best. The collaboration within ARINGO's team, which includes former admission committee members as well as experienced consultants with marketing writing skills, contributes to the success of our clients' applications.

Please join us in welcoming Gil Levi, founder of ARINGO, and wish him Good Luck!

Dear all,

I was accepted at Harvard, Wharton and INSEAD with a GMAT score of 650. I received a full, merit-based scholarship at Wharton upon admission and later became a member of the Wharton Admission Committee.

Following these experiences I founded ARINGO, an admission consulting firm with particular specialty in countering low GMAT scores. ARINGO employs the series of essay tools I originally developed as an applicant.

The results followed: our clients were accepted to Harvard (MBA) with GMAT’s of 580, 660 and 670; to Wharton with GMAT’s of 640, 660 and 670; to Duke with GMAT’s of 600 and 640; to INSEAD with GMAT’s of 630, 640 and 650; to MIT with GMAT’s of 660 and 680; to LBS with GMAT’s of 630, 650 and 660; to Kellogg with GMAT’s of 640 and 680, and many more…

Any questions out there about the admission process?

Regards,
Gil Levi

Hi Aringo,

Please evaluate my profile;

Male
27years old
International student from Africa (I have noticed this is an advantage as most schools like to be considered diverse)

GMAT; 630 (yeah I know its low. this is my second attempt so not sure if I can really improve on this within the time frame to make 2016/2017 application deadline)

Work experience; Chartered accountant with over 4years working with one of the big 4 accounting firms here in Africa

Professional qualification; ACCA. (won an award for one of the top 100 exam results in the world)

Extra-curricular - Help out with a few charities (educational based and welfare based charity)

Differentiating factor - Grew up with two parents, both entrepreneurs. Spent summers working with both parents (small scale businesses) but grew to love my fathers accounting practice hence I became an accountant. Unfortunately he recently passed away hence I was responsible for the practice he left behind. Took some time off work and tidied up the practice (this shows my first hand experience working as an entrepreneur). I want an MBA (preferably but not compulsorily from an Ivy league) to equip me with the necessary enterpreneural and management skills needed to come back home and take control of his business. Based on my experience of boths parents businesses, I will also like to set up a consulting arm aimed at assisting small and medium scale businesses.

Schools aiming for (in order of importance) - (1) Any top tier school (Top 15) in the USA (2)Any top tier/second tier canadian business school (3) any top tier/second tier UK business school.

NB; I applied and got waitlisted to 2 schools which were in the top 15 last year with a 620 gmat score. Unfortunately I didnt get into any

Your profile is definitely interesting and you are right that being an African applicant can help your cause. That said, your GMAT score is quite low for the top US schools, but not necessarily for most Canadian and UK schools. So the question is if you would feel that you are settling if you go for a school in one of those countries?

(It is also really important to note that while GMAT score are important, they are not the only important thing, so I am not saying that applying to US schools would be hopeless in any way, just that it might be a bit more challenging for you)

What are you looking to get out of an MBA? What do you see yourself doing in the future? All that - and how well you can communicate that - does affect your chances as well.

What schools waitlisted you last time? (if you don’t mind sharing, of course)

Did you work with an admissions consultant last time, on essays for example? (if not, doing that this time around could probably help, depending on how you think you did with the essays last time of course)

Sorry about all the questions but I feel I need to know a bit more in order to be able to advise you further in the best way.

All in all, you have a well rounded profile, with a solid GMAT score and GPA and it does seem you have some international experience as well. What your profile is lacking is some more accomplishments in your professional roles, leadership experience and examples of that as well as some more extracurricular activities. Any way you can improve on that (or have other things to mention, that you left out here?)? If so, that would improve your chances.

Your chances of admission in all the schools you mentioned are decent, but you need to convince the adcoms of why you want to go to their school specifically and why they could help you reach your future goals. So the question is really: why did you choose these schools? What do you like about them? And do you have a favorite among them?

If you do not have a satisfying and convincing answer for these questions, that may harm your chances so I would recommend you really put some effort into thinking about that. If we can help in anyway, feel free to sign up for a free consultation on our website https://aringo.com/ in order to find out how an admissions consultant can help you with those specific issues. (These are tricky questions for a lot of applicants so we work on finding answers for them a lot)

Based on your answers to these questions we may also be able to recommend other schools.

Good luck!

2 promotions in 4 years (early promotion this year - managing 2-3 people)
GMAT: 690 (Q42 V41)
ECs: Volunteer/mentor organizational involvement; Undergrad leadership positions
Post MBA goal - return to consulting

What are my chances right now for:
1) Wharton
2) Sloan
3) Booth
4) Kellogg

I understand that my gmat score is below the mean for these schools - is there any chance I can get an interview with my score as is? I am considering taking the GRE as well but not sure i have enough time before the deadline.

Thank you!

Hi,
I am planning to apply Round 1 this year for the fall 2017 session. It would be of great help if you could please evaluate my profile.

Nationality/Gender/Age - Indian/F/23
GMAT- 620 (45Q, 31V, 4.5AWA)
Academic qualification - B.E(Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering), Pune University.
GPA - 3.75

W.E:
Working as a software engineer at an IT company.
Will be completing 2 years by the time I join.
Lead the web development department of my team
Received an award for the best web developer of my batch
Organized training sessions for different courses at my company

Extra –Curricular:
Was the sponsorship team head of the national tech fest of my college
Won a pool tournament at my company
Volunteer for an NGO that helps underprivileged children
Captain of my college volleyball team, represented it at national level
Conducted various events under IEEE during college
Part of a team in my company that conducts many 'Go Green' drives

Post MBA plans: work for a consulting firm initially and then move on to leadership roles in the industry

Target schools:
Wisconsin Madison
University of Florida
Texas A&M
Texas Dallas
University of Illinois Urbana Champaign

Please let me know if I have a good chance with these target schools? If not, what can I aim for?

P.S. I know my GMAT score is too low, so if I need to improve on that part, how much do I need to improve, given that I have to apply soon.

Your profile definitely has some interesting bits, but you are still quite young and 2 years of working experience is not always enough for most schools you mentioned. Additionally, you do lack leadership experience after college, so those are your main issues as I see it. If there is any way for you to improve on those issues and then apply, I would highly recommend doing so.
If you have the opportunity to add some interesting extracurriculars to your profile, that would be great as well.

As for your question about your GMAT score in particular, I do think you need it to be at least 20 or 30 points higher than it is now for your chances to be really good, but keep in mind that the GMAT score is only a small part of the equation. In my opinion, the other issues I mentioned above are more important.
Good luck!

You are right that the GMAT score is low for all the schools, but this cannot be stressed enough: that is only part of the puzzle when you apply! I do think you have enough interesting things going on in your profile in order to be considered, but this of course will require outstanding essays and applications. I would therefore definitely recommend looking into getting some help with that (fill in our form for free profile evaluation on https://aringo.com/ if you would want to know how ARINGO specifically can help, as we would need some additional information that you have not provided. You should know, however, that assisting applicants with low GMAT scores is one of our specialities!)

Alternatively, if you can postpone your application (not sure this is an alternative for you but still want to bring it up) and improve your score by 20 to 30 points (and the Quant score in particular as several of these schools are Quant focused), your chances would definitely be better for these schools, as you are going for top tier ones of course.

Hello,
I am a 28 year old Indian male, married (also a 2 month old father - not sure if that's relevant but who can contain such a joy!) Please consider my profile below:
Under Graduate:
4.0 GPA (CGPA 9.24/10) B. Tech. Civil Engineering from Vellore Institute of Technology (India)
Post Graduate:
4.0 GPA (72% Distinction) M. Sc. in Structural Engineering from The University of Manchester (UK)
Work Experience:
6 years as an Offshore Structural Engineer (no not IT !) in Major multinational players in Oil and Gas (Saipem, DNV-GL, etc.) in which 5 years (as of present) have been international (Dubai, UAE)
GMAT:
680 (Q47, V37) - 1st attempt (My computer shutdown twice accidentally as my knee hit the power button on the CPU - not my alibi but a fact imploring the evaluator to look into my previous academic track record to gauge my acumen)
GMAT retake:
Not possible because of increasing work pressure and family responsibilities
Post MBA Goals (in descending order of priority):
1) Strategy Consulting 2) General Consulting 3) Management positions (Business Development, Acquisition and Merger, etc)
Essays:
Coming along fine
Target Deadline:
Round 1

Kindly advise me how I should plan my shortlist of say 6 - 10 Schools (if its even sane to consider 10 schools in the first place?). Considering I have a dependent family, my priority is obviously securing a Job that helps me knock off the debts at the earliest and settle down with my family. Having said that, since this would probably be the last degree in this lifetime (Triple Masters is very unlikely unless my daughter wants me to join her in school), I would want to sign off from academics by joining the very best possible B - School in line with my profile.

Appreciate all your help in advance.
