The table below represents the relationship between ages and the number of members in a certain club C

If the number of members in the club C is 100, what is the value of x?

(1) The median age of the members in the club C is 30.5 years old
(2) y = 17

Hi...
total members are 100..
(1) The median age of the members in the club C is 30.5 years old.
Possible that it would look to few that this is not sufficient. BUT always work a bit on the sentence
Median age as 30.5 means that it is average of 50 and 51 person..
BUT 30.5 is also the MIDDLE of the age. so what does it tell us ...
It tells us that half are above 50 and half below 50..
so 26+x+4+6=50........36+x=50....x=14
suff
Ofcourse you can find y also 27+y+6 = 50....y=17

(2) y = 17

straight suff...
as two variables x and y..
y is known we can find x
suff

D

Hi chetan2u, can we assume that this club has only children as its members? Should we make such assumptions on DS questions?
