I think this is a high-quality question and I agree with explanation. Though this question is inspired by a GMATPrep question the explanation is fabulous and simple!

You can solve this question in 30 seconds period. Only one simple rule to remember. "If today is a Monday, year not being a leap year, then next year same day will be a Tuesday. If Current year is a leap year then just add 2 days. So say if we are in Jan 1st 2015, Which is a Thursday, and need to find Jan 1st, 2016 just add 1 day. So Jan 1st, 2016 will be a Friday. But Jan 1st of 2017 will be Sunday since 2016 is a leap year ( we add 2 days).

Thanks,
Arun

Another approach:

2*365+366+2 = 1098
1098 = #of days

1098/7 = 156 with remainder 6
where 7 days of the week
156 = # of weeks

6 days+ Saturday = Friday

I think this is a high-quality question and I agree with explanation. Hey, I like the question but to be honest I think it is more 500 lvl than 700 lvl. I dont say that to brag (got below 40 in quant acutally)

Re: M08-14 [#permalink]
I found this way to be the easiest

1987, 19th
.
365 days
.
1988, 18th (one additional day, march 29, right?)
.
365 days
.
1989, 18th
.
365 days
.
1990, 18th

So in total it should be 365*3 + 3 days (3 days from 18th to 21st). Divide that by 7 and add the remainder to the weekday
