why cant the answer be C ?? since the argument wants to test on the credibility that if the divorce led to religious people , the by interviewing the atheist who are non religious who grew up to adults in a divorce family then we can prove that it is divorce that's making people more religious

for me the C is incorrect because suppose we interview 100 atheist adults and 70 of them say they are of divorce still author conclusion holds because may be the divorce happened recently while argument is about growing up in a family .....

the pick is between A and B.

A Interview a large random sample of adult children of divorce to see if they are also very religious. The presence of "if they are also religious'' spoils the pie. We are looking for a 40% or more..not the whole community.

B gives a better connection to the matter under discussion.

Option C: Interview a local atheist group to see how many adult children of divorce are among its members.

This will not affect the conclusion that growing up in a family where there is a divorce leads to children becoming more religious.

Option B: Interview the congregants of the large conservative church to find out if they grew up in the church of converted as adults.

This however will question the validity of the conclusion and hence this data will help either strengthen the conclusion or quash it.

B is correct:

Premise: 40 percent of congregates (Religious believers) who attended church are Adult children of divorce parents.
Conclusion: Growing up in a family of divorced people makes them religious.

Assumptions: People grew up with divorced people before becoming congregates.

B answers the same intention. but i think the wording is wrong. Its not church of converted but grew up in church before converting (or becoming) adults.

abhimahna, Bunuel, Can you correct me if i were wrong?
If it is so can you edit option B, else it changes the meaning- church of converted.

I feel the same too... The wording is wrong. It can also be grew up in the church or converted as adults although I prefer your nightmare002 version

Answer is (B)
It says divorce makes people religious. What if its the other way around. What if children of divorced people had no other way but to live in churches

As per answer C even if atheist people say that they are children of divorce, we cannot judge the conclusion because we dont whether their parents got divorced before or after children became adults.
So this cannot be answer.

B) breaks the connection between already religious family and divorces which is an assumption or on of two factors that can lead to higher adult children of divorce in the church thus making the conclusion that divorces lead adults to turn to church. CORRECT
C) does nothing to make it clearer let's say even more than 50% are children of divorce it tells us nothing about the chances of one turning to church in those circumstances as we know nothing about the data of other groups and what a higher chance depends on the stats of population as a whole.

Option A
This option directly investigates whether the adult children of divorce tend to be more religious, which is the conclusion the researchers drew from their study. By conducting interviews with this specific group, you can test whether there is a correlation between growing up in a family with divorce and increased religiosity.

Here in the option A the word "very" makes the difference. The question is whether they are religious or not but the option tells about the scale of the religiousness
