Has anyone considered the Gies iMBA? This is a fully accredited MBA degree from the University of Illinois. It is totally delivered on-line with no campus requirement. Also, there is no GMAT nor GRE requirement! The best part is the low cost: only $22,000! Students can begin taking credit classes before admission. These credits are transferable to the iMBA or any other university. MOOC classes and distance learning have received favorable reviews from Harvard Business Review and CNNMoney.
"We're catering to people who typically wouldn't be able to come into an MBA program at this stage in their life, but still need it to advance their careers," said Nikhil Sinha, the Chief Business Officer at Coursera. During a panel discussion, Dean Raj Echambadi stated that the mission of the Gies iMBA is to deliver high quality education at an affordable price. This is an effort to broaden the definition of an MBA degree, and to deliver a more meaningful business learning experience.
The website claims that there is no difference between the iMBA and the on-campus MBA. All transcripts and diplomas will state you studied at Urbana-Champaign. My transcript from The University of Maryland reflects a similar experience. While stationed with the USAF in Germany, I took several classes at the UM Frankfurt campus. My first transcript reflected this fact. Two years later, I received a letter and an updated transcript. The letter stated that some military students had encountered problems while transferring credits, especially to graduate programs. The problem was the location. My updated transcript now reads College Park, MD. No problems since, all transfer credits have been accepted w/o questions.
In a time of increasing e-commerce, world-wide acceptance of MOOC, leveraging information and knowledge in an increasingly flat world, the Gies iMBA makes a lot of sense and represents a tremendous return-on-investment.

Hello Everyone,
I applied in round 2 and submitted my application on March 1. My references were also uploaded by March 5. I haven't heard back about the interview and portal shows decision pending. It shows that we will know the result by April 5th. I'm a bit nervous now. Has anyone got admission without an interview?
During my interview, they stated that they do not extend admissions without an interview. Everyone who's admitted will receive an interview invite and the interview is really just a cut and dry answer prompt of 3-4 questions (lasts about 10-15 minutes) then 5-10 minutes given for you to ask questions.
I would call and ask as most decisions to extend interviews should be made soon.

Thanks for all the info. I emailed them to ask about the status of my application. Hope I get the interview invite soon. Fingers crossed

Hey, does anyone's recommender experienced difficulty in receiving the request of LoR email? My prof. couldn't receive any email from UIUC. I'm waiting for the admission team to get back to me. One more thing, I'm curious about everyone's work experience. I only have three years FT experience. Not sure if it's gonna affect my chance. I'm a bit anxious.
Reply to my post:
I've done the interview a moment ago. It lasts about 15-20 minutes. At the end I asked the interviewer How many interview invitations they already send out. She said 95% and select 50% to admit.
btw, my prof. has to submit the letter by this Friday. She's still waiting for the email...it's SO odd.

I think you can write to them directly, maybe the system is blocking it. See if the admission can help you out on receiving directly from your professor? onlinemba@illinois.edu Good luck to you.

Hi Everyone - I have my iMBA interview tomorrow. Any pointers would be appreciated. Also, is it inappropriate to wear my wired headphones (iPhone type)?

Anyone in the Round 2 applicants received decision yet? Wondering if we all will know on April 5th or they started sending decision emails.
I have not yet, but just got my final letter of recommendation submitted yesterday, so I might be waiting longer. People are still doing their interviews. I would not be surprised if we don't hear back until April 5th or closer to that date.

I wore my work Jabra headphones which are much larger. I don't think it matters. Advice, make sure you have a good internet connection and test everything beforehand! My work's wifi kept going in and out during my interview.

Posted from my mobile device
My interview experience was the same as most other's have stated. It lasted about 20 minutes with basically 4 questions with time at the end to explain the program and my questions. I was told I should hear something by April 5th. I am, however, still waiting on one recommendation to be submitted.
