Has anyone considered the Gies iMBA? This is a fully accredited MBA degree from the University of Illinois. It is totally delivered on-line with no campus requirement. Also, there is no GMAT nor GRE requirement! The best part is the low cost: only $22,000! Students can begin taking credit classes before admission. These credits are transferable to the iMBA or any other university. MOOC classes and distance learning have received favorable reviews from Harvard Business Review and CNNMoney.
"We're catering to people who typically wouldn't be able to come into an MBA program at this stage in their life, but still need it to advance their careers," said Nikhil Sinha, the Chief Business Officer at Coursera. During a panel discussion, Dean Raj Echambadi stated that the mission of the Gies iMBA is to deliver high quality education at an affordable price. This is an effort to broaden the definition of an MBA degree, and to deliver a more meaningful business learning experience.
The website claims that there is no difference between the iMBA and the on-campus MBA. All transcripts and diplomas will state you studied at Urbana-Champaign. My transcript from The University of Maryland reflects a similar experience. While stationed with the USAF in Germany, I took several classes at the UM Frankfurt campus. My first transcript reflected this fact. Two years later, I received a letter and an updated transcript. The letter stated that some military students had encountered problems while transferring credits, especially to graduate programs. The problem was the location. My updated transcript now reads College Park, MD. No problems since, all transfer credits have been accepted w/o questions.
In a time of increasing e-commerce, world-wide acceptance of MOOC, leveraging information and knowledge in an increasingly flat world, the Gies iMBA makes a lot of sense and represents a tremendous return-on-investment.

I recently applied to the iMBA program and have an interview scheduled for next week. At first I wasn't sure about an online program, but the more thought I gave to the program the more I realized that the majority of my work is done online with team members located across the country and sometimes abroad. With that in mind, I think the program is extremely relevant to today's work environment. As someone who has been out of school for 15 years I see the online program as a flexible and affordable option offered by a great school.
Congrats! How early did you apply and did you interview?
Thanks! I applied for R1 this past Feb 2018, did my interview about a week ago and got my acceptance letter the next Monday. The whole process was super efficient and pretty easy to manage.

I have my interview on Monday. I am applying for Fall 2018 start. Do you know how much amount one needs to deposit while accepting their offer, and how long do they give to accept the offer?
Hi somecallmetim52, Thank you for your response. What was the interview like? any preparation tips? Also, have you spoken with any of past or current iMBA students? How does the campus placement look like post iMBA?

The interview was short, really short.. I was only asked 4 questions, given an overview of the program, then had a lot of time at the end to ask my own questions.
I have talked with someone who is in the first graduating class and she loved the program! Apparently the school is continually doing improvements to the technology and adding stuff continuously, so it’s great to hear that.
No clue what you’re asking I’m your 3rd question.. campus placement?

By campus placements I meant - do iMBA grads get to appear for on campus recruiting events (interviews). I looked up UIUC's website and they have a list of companies that recruit their (full time) MBA grads, but could not find any such information for iMBA program graduates.

Just finished my interview and it was super short as well. I was a little worried it was too short! Glad to hear I'm not the only one! They said they make decisions on Friday and notify on Monday/Tuesday of the following week. Fingers crossed my outcome is as good as yours...
Congrats!! That’s awesome! Are you going to start classes early or just wait until the fall?

I am considering about taking an earlier course, do you know when does the course start in may? I may have limited access to internet the first 10 days in May...

Thanks! I wouldn't mind getting started early if possible. I'm hoping they send more information about registration and program requirements when they send out our net id and UIN. Have you received anything yet? Are you hoping to start classes earlier than the fall?

My plan is actually to start May with the strategic management course, which I’m pretty excited about! It was really helpful for me to sign up for some time to talk to my program advisor and get a class schedule together for my 3 years. I’d advise doing that sooner rather than later.[/quote]
Great idea to meet with a program advisor and map out a path. Based on the calendars I've seen it looked like it might be possible to complete the program in 2 years? That's what I was hoping to do... either way it would be great to start in May. Would that offset your path from the rest of the cohort? I'm still waiting on official notification from the graduate school so I can officially accept.
Has anyone received the 'Notice of Admission' email with UIN and similar?
Also, anyone coming to the Networking event in Chicago on April 7? Please confirm.
Thanks!

I received the acceptance email 2 weeks ago, but I've not yet received an email from the graduate school with the Notice of Admission and UIN that was mentioned in the acceptance email.
I'm planning to attend the Networking event in Chicago. Are you?

Hey all - I too got my acceptance for iMBA and I am super excited to start in Fall 2018. Any pointers on how to reach out to program adviser in order to map out a path?
