It's kind of an opportunity that Columbia allows the executive assessment they are the first full-time program to do so.

Many reasons to do the EA. First of all it's like GMAT light. It is simply not as difficult because it is designed for executives who have been out of school for some time. It really was designed to make sure that Executive MBA applicants will be able to cut through the Quant of the program.

In my opinion the fact that Columbia is accepting this assessment creates a bit of an opportunity because frankly there is no class average or known ranking for EA so it allows them to identify people who maybe have enough Quant for them to feel okay to admit them, BUT they don't have Stellar test scores that are going to bump up the overall ranking.

They want to cherry-pick for diversity and people who would add unique value to the class, but not take a hit on the numbers. This is the dirty little secret about alternative tests that are not yet disclosed. gaming the system basically.

As an admissions consultant I have to say I take complete advantage of this.

There is no one that knows the answer to this question as it's so new...

What made you take the EA rather than the GMAT?

fatnani, 153 was the average EA score at Booth last year per the class profile information on their official website. I would assume, any score above 160 should be ok but aim for a higher score if you think you have it in you in the second attempt if you fall short of your expectation in the first.

Yes, I did.

If curious to learn more, I wrote an article detailing the steps I took. Hoping it helps someone!

How did you prep for EA
Just the questions ? What was your practice score Vs the original one

I never took a practice EA exam. I prepped for the EA by prepping for the GMAT, and took the EA for fun to be honest and ended up doing well.

Per an email I received from the Admissions Committee a couple weeks ago, CBS wants applicants to shoot for a 150 on the EA.

I'm applying for CBS (leaning ED) with a 710 GMAT score (this has already been submitted to the school). I wrote this two years ago when I had a lot more free time to study and I've since changed jobs and will unlikely be able to rewrite it in time for R2 deadline.

This is the first time I'm learning about EA being accepted for a Full Time program, would you think it's advantageous for me to give it a shot and try to score higher than a GMAT equivalent of 710 (whatever that may be)?

Interesting. I received this exact sentence from CBS on 15 July 2021 regarding the EA for the fulltime program: "Thank you for your email. For the EA, we generally recommend that applicants aim for a score in the mid 150s and higher."

Above 150 vs mid-150s+ is very different percentile rankings...I would aim higher than just over 150 imo.

I spoke recently with an admissions representative from CBS who told me that an EA of 155+ is considered competitive.

Hi,

Demographics - Indian Female Age -30 Education - Engineering India ( Electrical & Electronics GPA - 3.7)

M.S USA ( Advance Power System Engineering GPA - 3.7) WE - 2 years in IBM India as System Engineer ;
5 years in USA as Engineering Consultant for Utilities

I could not score well in my GMAT 670 (Q48, V31) and with application deadlines approaching I gave EA and scored 157( which is supposedly great). I am planning to apply for Full Time MBA in Fuqua, Stern, McComb, Tepper & Darden with my EA score.

I have some interesting work experience such as worked for providing solutions for the grid in Key West after IRMA and to PG&E during/after California wildfire in 2019.

I am pitching my application for sustainable/Energy Management.

If I interact with my American/European friend for the Schools I am applying, I feel pumped up and believe that I can get in with my overall application. But if I talk to my Indian friends who are currently in MBA School or working on their application, I feel I am doomed as I come from ORM. I feel like I am suffering from Bipolar disorder at this point.

With so little information available for EA score my anxiety level is all time high. So, can you please provide your valuable input whether or not it makes sense for me to apply with this score? Do I have chance to get into these Schools?

P.S - I won't be able to give GMAT again this year as my work is extremely stressful now due to fire season in California and waiting another is not feasible as I am already dealing with resistance from family that why do I need to go School at 31 and not have kid 😔

Thank you

Hopefully this helps someone.

Just got dinged in Round 2 (applied late Nov/early Dec) without interview at Columbia FT using EA.

Stats:
3.62 GPA from top 5 undergrad business at big public state (Michigan, Berkeley, Texas, UVA, UNC)
153 EA 93% Verbal but like 50% Quant & 152 EA with 37% Verbal but 85% Quant. Took these days apart but couldn't get my good days to occur at once, so FML. Standardized tests are definitely my weak point
6 years of WE across product management, corporate strategy, and Advertising for Amazon, Microsoft, and internship at Apple.

Demo:
White, Male, 29

Extra:
From a substance abuse family, Dad in jail, poor etc. Went to community college and then transferred to university on a full ride (which was awarded based on merit and need). Just saying this for context not trying to whine. I was hoping my story would separate me from the "white tech guy" camp but at this point I am worried it doesn't matter and I am pushed into the over represented bucket anyway.
TLDR, I have no idea what matters.

Explanation:
From reading online, it seems like especially with an EA, ED is the way to go. That was not feasible for me but I think not doing ED and applying early December probably hurt me. Nervous that the rest of my application couldn't overcome my test score. Kind of thought I was allowed to have one weakness but who knows. The EA is still super new and that is good and bad. Good for maybe downplaying the impact of test scores but bad because the lack of visibility/transparency; i.e., I've read that a 151 and a 160 (from earlier in this thread) both got in ED, but a regular decision with a 166 got denied. Also, I got several answers from Ad comm ranging from 150+ being competitive to 160+ being good, so just a difficult thing to dial in.

Sorry this is a bit long, but wanted to provide enough detail. Best of luck to everyone else applying.

Quick question: Does CBS accept online EA or has to be a centre EA?
